Chemical engineering is the study and modeling of systems where heat and fluid flow are coupled with chemical reactions. Examples of systems are the human body, ground water, the atmosphere, the ocean, and chemical reactors. Natural systems are measured and modeled in order to understand present and future behavior. Man-made systems are specifically designed to convert raw materials into more useful products.

Making useful products requires using mathematics and science to plan, develop, design, operate, and improve processes. Some processes are micro-scale, as in computer chip manufacturing, and some are large-scale, as in petroleum refining. Typical products from these processes include computer chips, solar cells, batteries, pharmaceuticals, plastics, synthetic fibers, composite materials, pulp and paper, and consumer products ranging from detergents to cosmetics. Chemical engineers find employment in large high-tech companies, environmental consulting firms, large commodity companies and small software companies. Employment prospects for graduates in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest are strong.

Ethnic Studies
Ethnic Studies majors and minors take comparative core courses on "race" and ethnicity and select one major area of concentration from the following: African American Studies, Asian Pacific American Studies, Chicana/o Latina/o Studies, Native American Studies. In addition, majors must complete a nine-credit graded internship working with an entity that provides service to one or more of the ethnic communities named above. The minor internship, which is optional, consists of three credits.

OSU’s master's in Applied Ethics program is designed to develop your moral reasoning and critical thinking skills in the service of an engaged life. Through coursework, a real-world practicum, and a thesis, you’ll learn how to identify, analyze, and resolve ethical issues, mentored by faculty who are actively involved in ethics research across a wide array of disciplines.

The mechanical engineering (ME) profession is dedicated to applying principles of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics in the analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical components, devices, and systems. Oregon State's graduate program in Mechanical Engineering is designed to educate leaders who will develop and improve systems for transforming energy, health, materials, and information to meet the needs of society.  To be eligible for graduate studies at Oregon State, Mechanical Engineering applicants must have a baccalaureate or master’s degree in science, mathematics, or engineering.

Zoology
Zoology is an interdisciplinary biological sciences degree that focuses on all aspects of the biology of animals – from genes to ecosystems. In particular, the zoology coursework covers major areas of the life sciences including genetics, physiology, ecology, evolution and conservation biology. The Department of Horticulture offers graduate work leading to the Master of Agriculture (MAg), Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. The MS and PhD degrees culminate in original research reported in a thesis and are often pursued by students interested in research related careers, or who wish direct training in research methods. The MAg degree provides for broad training in several fields of agriculture, and is usually reserved for those not desiring the specialized research training and experience of the MS degree.

Geography is the study of Earth's environments, landscapes, peoples, and places. It includes natural science (physical geography), social science (human geography), and geospatial science (GIScience). Geographers collect, analyze, and display spatial information, and apply the concepts and theory of geography to explore social and environmental questions.
