Chemistry

Physics
The Department of Physics at Oregon State University offers degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physics within the College of Science. Several options to the Physics B.S. degree are available, including Applied Physics, Biological Physics, Chemical Physics, Computational Physics, Geophysics, Mathematical Physics, Optical Physics, and Physics Education.  We also offer a minor in Physics.

The BioHealth Sciences (BHS) major serves over 700 students, and is designed for students seeking an interdisciplinary background in the life sciences, health care, and social sciences.  This major consists of a comprehensive core with a strong biological and physical science foundation combined with a variety of health and social sciences courses in a unique blend formulated to meet the needs of students interested in a career in the health care field.  BioHealth Sciences majors receive excellent training for a variety of professional programs including: dentistry, physician assistants, pharmacists, physical therapists, optometrists, podiatrists, doctors, and clinical laboratory scientists.  Healthcare providers will be prepared to meet the challenges of the increasing diversity of our nation through training on cultural competence and cross-cultural issues.

American Studies
What does it mean to be American? And where does American-ness stem from? Who qualifies as “We, the People,” and does it matter? What is the American Dream? Who might it leave out? Why?

American studies students confront these complex questions, exploring the enduring political ideologies, moments of cultural awakening and diverse perspectives that make America what it is. It’s all up to interpretation and that’s the fun of it!

As an expert in American identity, you will spend your days examining the interplay of disciplines such as history, literature, political science and sociology, adding your insights to the work of scholars past. What amazing places it will take you is anyone’s guess.

Earth Sciences
The undergraduate Earth Sciences degree has three distinct options that build on an integrated curriculum core which includes courses in Earth, ocean, atmospheric sciences, and field skills.

• Geology - the physical Earth: its history, interior structure, and processes that shape its surface
• Ocean Science - the physical, chemical, and biological workings of the ocean
• Climate Science - the climate system and its interrelationships with society

Our Master's International Direct pairs a Direct Entry I-20 with customized support during the first term of students' graduate studies in MS Business. Students will benefit from increased support throughout the predeparture and academic journey as they study alongside domestic students.

The Department of Mathematics offers graduate programs leading to the M.A & M.S degrees in Mathematics with research emphasis possible in a variety of areas within pure and applied mathematics and in mathematics education. There are active faculty research groups in algebra and number theory, analysis, applied mathematics, geometry and topology, mathematical biology, mathematics education, numerical analysis, and probability.

Architectural Engineering

Working closely with other specialists, architectural engineers call upon their multidisciplinary knowledge of science, engineering and mathematics to answer questions like: What’s the most efficient and hygienic way to ventilate a hospital? How should screens be positioned in a basketball stadium so players aren’t blinded by their glare? What factors help make a building carbon neutral?

As an architectural engineer, you’ll spend your days finding new ways to improve quality of life through the built environment. Geography and geospatial science provide approaches and tools to address pressing issues affecting communities, nations and the planet. At OSU students combine geography — the study of human and Earth system processes in space and time — and geospatial science — the collection, analysis, and presentation of spatial data — to analyze and interpret change in the environment and human society. The program has three areas of excellence: geospatial analysis and modeling, dynamic Earth processes, and global change risk and resilience. Graduates work in government, industry, and non-governmental organizations, addressing climate change, environmental hazards, natural resources, and their human dimensions. Picture yourself in an M.S. or Ph.D. program in Geography working with some of the most creative and renowned faculty in the country.
