This major combines courses in statistics, information technology, and business, to help you build strong business decision-making skills. You’ll learn how to use business data to improve efficiency, solve problems, identify new opportunities, and prepare for the future.

Economics
As an economics major at Suffolk University, you’ll be part of a vibrant community of students, scholars, and professors who synthesize data to solve social issues and substantiate policy decisions. The Finance major focuses on the evolving demands of the global financial environment. You'll be introduced to the latest educational technology, including Compustat, CRSP, StockTrak, Bloomberg, and Morningstar. Journalism matters. Learn to report the news across print and digital platforms at Suffolk University. Whether you concentrate in broadcast journalism or print/web journalism, you'll earn a degree that's in-demand and invaluable to your career and grad school plans.

Suffolk University's program is tailored to your goals. You'll start by taking two foundation courses that focus on effective speaking, concise writing, and critical thinking and then courses in writing, online journalism, and media law. Next, you’ll gain specific knowledge and hands-on experience in journalism.

Concentration in Print/web
If you choose the print/web journalism concentration, you’ll gain universal skills that can be applied in print and online, including reporting, feature writing, criticism, and copy editing. Our students regularly intern at The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Boston Magazine, and Metro newspapers, among other print outlets, as well as for a wide variety of online news and sports publications.

Concentration in Actuarial Science
You’ll learn the theory and practical skills of mathematics, statistics, finance, and economics to pursue a variety of careers. Insurance and pension companies need actuaries to assess risk and develop better insurance plans. Brokerage firms, banks, marketing companies, and government agencies need people who can analyze data, forecast trends, and assess loan risks.

You’ll learn advertising industry basics, including how to create ads and plan campaigns that appeal to industry brands and nonprofits' target markets. You’ll build ads from the ground up, writing copy and designing visual elements. Plus, you'll study the fundamentals of media planning and buying as they apply to television, radio, print, online, and social media advertising.

A whole world of experiential learning awaits just outside our classrooms, too. At Suffolk, it's easy to commute to internships at nearby advertising agencies, TV stations, and other top media employers in Boston.

Suffolk University's biology major is especially collaborative and career-focused. Many of your classes will have fewer than 20 students, and you'll benefit from your professors' individual attention, thanks to our low faculty-to-student ratio.

Your experiences in our classrooms and labs will teach you scientific research methods and reporting; your experiences interning at Boston's premier hospitals and research facilities will deepen your knowledge and broaden your network.

At Suffolk, you can earn either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Biology, depending on your area of focus. You’ll begin with a well-rounded assortment of courses in both the lab and classroom focusing on evolution, genetics, ecology, bioethics, and physiology. If you have a specific professional interest, you might choose one of our three concentration options.

Concentration in Marine Science
This concentration prepares you for a career as a marine biologist, conservationist, zoologist, and other fields related to ecology. It is immersive and features courses taught through the Marine Studies Consortium (MSC), a collaborative organization of 16 local institutions. Locations include the New England Aquarium and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
