Data Science
The Master of Science in Data Science program prepares graduate students for a professional career in the field of big data. Students will be equipped with fundamental knowledge and skills in data science and analytics, including:

• Machine learning,
• Modelling and quantitative analysis of massive datasets,
• Application of such technologies in strategic decisions,
• Critical skills for collecting and managing massive datasets, and
• Implementation of efficient solutions to real world big data problems using the most appropriate algorithmic techniques and software development tools available.

The program includes a set of core required courses and provides an opportunity for students to select from a wide range of electives related to data analytics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, business intelligence, and cyber security.

As a data scientist, you'll be using math, statistics, and programming skills to organize information and help businesses find solutions. Earning a master's in data science can help prepare you for a career as a software engineer, systems analyst, database administrator, research analyst, and more.

Anthropology—the study of humankind, past and present—has the widest scope of all the social sciences. With an understanding of other people and their cultures, you'll be prepared for a career in a variety of fields, including international business, law, teaching, forensic science, language interpretation, environmental conservation, or even museum curation.

To enhance your degree, we offer the opportunity to complete an honors program, study abroad, or design your own personalized program. You'll have access to a student research room and an impressive collection of artifacts. Your professors will teach you about topics such as cultural anthropology and archaeology—and they can provide valuable experience by partnering with you to make a difference through research on peace studies and human rights

The MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology is an academic degree designed for students who wish to receive education and training to prepare them for a career in the field of epidemiology. In addition, students who wish to enter doctoral-level training should consider majoring in epidemiology at the master's level. The program emphasizes understanding the role of epidemiology within the broader context of the field of public health.

The BS in Public Health degree offers a broad overview of public health research and practice, introducing you to the multiple focus areas within public health (e.g., epidemiology, health behavior, health policy). Our students also gain hands-on experience working with community partners to improve the health of populations. Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the BS in Public Health degree is designed to prepare students to:

• Identify key health challenges facing a community, based on evaluation and synthesis of public health information.
• Recognize the importance of evidence-based strategies to address public health challenges facing a community.
• Advocate for improved health in the community, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences.

Biology
Biology is the study of all living things—from molecules to entire ecosystems. And when you study all those things, you can do almost anything. Our alumni work in genetics, microbiology, spinal cord injury, brain development, and education, as well as in wildlife and nature conservation.

In our biology program, you'll have an amazing experience. For one, you'll be taught by our world-renowned faculty and scientists in state-of-the-art laboratories. You can even do fieldwork at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on Alabama's Gulf Coast or in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, the Galápagos Islands, or Antarctica. Once you've completed your program track—Integrated Biology, Marine Science, or Molecular Biology—you'll have the prerequisites you need for medical, dental, optometry, or pharmacy school.  You can even get certified to teach biology or general science through the UABTeach program.

The Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) program is divided into two tracks:

• The Thesis Track program is designed to prepare students to pursue doctoral-level study in criminology, criminal justice, or a related field. Students selecting this option are required to complete a thesis project under a faculty adviser.
• The Non-Thesis Track program is geared toward working professionals and designed to provide to them advanced training in such areas as research methods, program evaluation, and policy analysis. Students selecting this option are required to complete a Demonstration Project and are strongly encouraged to complete a field placement (Internship).

To succeed in these careers, you absolutely must know how to communicate effectively in local, national, and global communities alike. That's why we offer you traditional language, culture, civilization, linguistics, and literature classes. But that's just the beginning. You can also take courses such as Literature in Translation, Film and Cultural Studies, Foreign Media and Society, U.S. Latino Topics, Applied Linguistics, and Languages for the Professions. With internships and opportunities to study abroad, you can expand your worldview even further.

Chemistry
The UAB Department of Chemistry provides students with the education and practical experience they need to participate in new scientific frontiers. From our unique peer learning and teaching program to our world-class faculty and state-of-the-art research facilities, UAB Chemistry advances the boundaries of chemical scholarship and discoveries.
Chemistry connects the basic sciences with all of the applied sciences, including medicine and engineering. The foundations of the world’s economy in the next generation, including advanced materials, fuels, energy, nanomaterials, medicines, sensors, biotechnology, and genomics, will all have chemistry at their core. As a result, a degree in chemistry opens the door to a wide variety of careers, such as medicine, pharmacy, health professions, forensics, and research. Regardless of what you want to do, UAB Chemistry will help you get there.

Information Systems are the backbone of modern organizations. With today’s speed of innovation, organizations need help keeping up with emerging technologies and understanding how different applications can be leveraged to accomplish enterprise objectives. The amount of information generated each day can be overwhelming. Organizations need the best technological solutions to make sense of the data, and individuals who know how to develop them are in high demand, unlike some other computer related fields. Information Systems requires a blend of technical expertise and business savvy. The program provides a solid foundation in business information systems and business knowledge with a well-rounded business curriculum as well as specialized courses in information systems that deliver a broad understanding of how to leverage technology to achieve business goals.

This program is ideally suited for those who enjoy working with technology and with people. Graduates will be uniquely qualified to serve as liaisons between technical teams and management, and to facilitate collaborative approaches to solve business problems.
