 Engineering Design
In the world of engineering design, you might be responsible for creating the next new camera phone, innovating a self-driving car — practically anything. The possibilities are endless, and at UAB, you can tailor your major to help you succeed in almost any aspect of engineering design.
So what exactly goes in a degree in engineering design? For one, our program includes a 15-hour engineering design and innovation core as the backbone to your education. It’s a three-course progression in engineering design as well as a two-semester capstone project. Plus we’re going to load your noodle up with all the fundamental math, science, physics, and engineering skills that you’ll need to embark on your career.
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with a major in Engineering Design offers undergraduates a unique opportunity to earn an engineering degree tailored to their interest, with an emphasis on innovation and design.
The Engineering Design program is intended for students whose academic/scientific interests aren’t aligned with an existing engineering discipline or limited to one engineering discipline. Your curriculum will cover such topics as economics, socio-political awareness, and cultural literacy. We'll help you line up a study-abroad opportunity, participation in the Model Arab League, an internship with an international business, or another experience.

Theatre

But before you see your name in lights, we first have to hone your talents and teach you about topics such as scenery, lighting, makeup, and even theatre history. But don't worry, we'll want to get you on the stage often during your education, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to put your new skills to use. In fact, with our state-of-the-art theatres and scene design shop, you'll have opportunities to participate in or create professional-level productions.

Clinical labs need people like you to run tests and analyze data in order to give patients accurate diagnoses. We can prepare you for a career working in a hospital lab, industry, research lab, or elsewhere.

To earn the MS in Clinical Laboratory Science, you'll complete a rigorous curriculum that includes a set of rich, diverse learning experiences under faculty that are committed to your success. The comprehensive program includes courses such as Body Fluids, Laboratory Techniques, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Microbiology, among others. To give you a valuable, hands-on experience, you'll have lab offerings with most of your courses. In addition, you'll take professional-development classes that'll help you adapt with this evolving field. Neuroscience
Neuroscience is the study of the body's nervous system—or in other words, how the brain shares information throughout the body. A degree in this program can help you prepare for a career in academic or government research, medicine, biotechnology, or most health-related fields.

Because this program is a partnership between the Department of Neurobiology in the School of Medicine and the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, you'll have a diverse course offering that includes biology, chemistry, math, physics, psychology, and neurobiology. Furthermore, this program satisfies most prerequisite course requirements for those looking to go on to medical school or to pursue another career in health care. Finally, you'll have an opportunity to earn a general science teaching certification through UABTeach and have a chance to collaborate and research with a faculty member on campus.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership is designed to educate individuals who will plan, administer, and evaluate programs in maternal and child health. The program provides information about the special problems faced by women and children — including children and youth with special health care needs — and their families. It develops and integrates skills from maternal and child health policy and leadership and demonstrate their application in problem solving and systems development.

Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical Engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and problem-solving techniques to biology and medicine. BME knowledge and skills play important roles in modern healthcare — from diagnosis and analysis to treatment and recovery, and from the proliferation of implantable medical devices (such as pacemakers and artificial hips) to more futuristic technologies (such as stem cell engineering and 3D printing of biological organs).

Biomedical engineers differ from other engineering disciplines that have an influence on human health. How? Biomedical engineers use and apply an intimate knowledge of modern biological principles in their engineering design process. Subdisciplines in BME include design and development of active and passive medical devices, orthopedic implants, medical imaging, biomedical signal processing, tissue and stem cell engineering, and clinical engineering, just to name a few.

Students who successfully complete an INTO UAB Graduate Pathway program in civil engineering are assured progression to a UAB graduate engineering degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. At UAB, we can give you the engineering, design, and planning background you need to be a leader in civil engineering.

To prepare you for your career, we've designed a program that you can tailor based on your interests and goals. We have four concentrations for you to choose from, including construction engineering management, in which you can learn about cost and revenue estimating, risk, and more. You can also specialize in construction engineering management to learn about cost and revenue estimating, risk, and more. Plus you can choose a thesis option, non-thesis option with an emphasis on research and design, or a non-thesis option with an emphasis on sustainable engineering design. But no matter which you choose, you're going to need to both complete a comprehensive exam and defend either your research project or thesis in order to graduate. Finally, we're going to offer you the opportunity to earn a certificate in environmental, structural, sustainable, and transportation engineering, or engineering construction management.
