Civil Engineering
Creative thinkers like you are essential to establishing and maintaining the framework of productive communities, from roads and buildings to air quality and soil erosion control. In our program, we can teach you how to design, construct, and evaluate all kinds of infrastructure as a civil engineer.
Your road to a career will begin with an intensive curriculum that includes structural engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering, and construction engineering management. Plus, you can choose the Sustainable Engineering Design and Concentration to earn more experience in this growing area of civil engineering. Best of all, we offer study-abroad trips so you can earn academic credit while exploring a new culture. Interested in teaching? You can earn a teaching certification in mathematics through UABTeach. Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Graduate Pathway in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Sciences (2-Semester Pathway) Leading to Master of Science in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Sciences
INTO UAB's Graduate Pathway program in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Sciences will prepare you to enter the second year of a master’s degree program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. This transition from an INTO Graduate Pathway program to a university degree program is called progression.
Multidisciplinary Biomedical Sciences
You have an interest in biomedical health sciences, but you want to leave your options open for your future. With this degree, you will have an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills that can help you launch a career in research science, scientific policy, science communication, education, or biomedical sales—or to gain more experience in preparation for professional schools.
You have plenty of choices in the program. Choose the thesis or non-thesis options, which require different amounts of laboratory and research training. Take elective courses to explore different biomedical science disciplines. Add a concentration designation to your transcript. You can even enroll in professional development courses in teaching, writing, scientific communication, and other topics. No matter what you choose, you can benefit from a core curriculum that includes courses in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, General Human Physiology, Critical Thinking and Scientific Integrity, and Biostatistics.

The UAB Department of Physics offers a rigorous but flexible undergraduate program that emphasizes both depth and breadth in order to meet the demands of tomorrow’s technology-based research and education global scenes.

Master of Science in Health Administration
To succeed, healthcare providers need quality administrators like you to keep their organizations running as smoothly as possible. We can teach you the skills you need for leadership positions at hospitals, health systems, physician group practices, long-term care facilities, consulting firms, and insurance companies.
This program is offered in two formats – executive and residential – and your previous experience will determine which format is better for you. If you're a seasoned health professional, you'll enroll in the executive format, where we'll build on your years of experience and help prepare you for a senior management position through a combination of distance-learning courses and on-campus sessions. If you're looking to make the transition to health administration, you'll do the residential format, where you'll learn about the fundamentals of the field as well as get various networking opportunities. Although each format has slightly different curriculums, there are some similarities. Your courses will include health policy, strategic planning, health law, organization theory, economics, and marketing. The executive track offers a capstone experience, while the residential requires that you complete an administrative residency, internship, and capstone course.

Communication, whether verbal or nonverbal, is one of the most important skills prized by employers today. It can be an essential tool for success in a wide range of fields, including sales, emergency management, client service, public relations, and much more.
That's why, at UAB, we made this program so intensive. We want to make you the best communicator you can be. To begin, you will take classes covering topics such as writing, interviewing, pitching, and nonverbal communication skills. Then, you will also take leadership and management classes. Finally, your specific concentration will help you tailor your knowledge and experience. Biotechnology is responsible for a lot—from beer, cheese, and bread to biofuels and many other modern breakthroughs. At UAB, we can teach you the fundamentals of biotechnology and how to develop and launch new products and technology.
As a matter of fact, one of our most important goals is to help you make your ideas a reality. To do this, we'll enroll you in classes that are divided into categories such as principles of biotechnology, applications in biotechnology, bench to commercialization, and professional skills.
