Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical Engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and problem-solving techniques to biology and medicine. BME knowledge and skills play important roles in modern healthcare — from diagnosis and analysis to treatment and recovery, and from the proliferation of implantable medical devices (such as pacemakers and artificial hips) to more futuristic technologies (such as stem cell engineering and 3D printing of biological organs).

Biomedical engineers differ from other engineering disciplines that have an influence on human health. How? Biomedical engineers use and apply an intimate knowledge of modern biological principles in their engineering design process. Subdisciplines in BME include design and development of active and passive medical devices, orthopedic implants, medical imaging, biomedical signal processing, tissue and stem cell engineering, and clinical engineering, just to name a few.

Our Master of Arts (MA) degree in Communication Management is specifically targeted at professionals in communication-related fields and students seeking an advanced degree in communication. As a student in our program, you’ll explore practical and theoretical applications in a variety of challenging real-world communication contexts. Our classes are offered in the evenings and on weekends to make them easier to fit into your already-busy schedule.

The Master of Science in Cyber Security (formerly known as Computer Forensics and Security Management) (MSSec) is an interdisciplinary program that prepares graduates for a professional career in the field of cyber security by developing in them the necessary skills crucial for success. The program also provides current practitioners the opportunity to obtain advanced-level training to facilitate career advancement. The program includes a set of core, required courses and the opportunity to select from a default option or two tracks of specialization.

Economics

To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

Criminal Justice
As a criminal justice student, you'll not only learn about crime and justice—you'll also gain critical skills in analyzing and communicating. In fact, with your degree, you can pursue careers in law enforcement – including cyber crime investigation – and social services, business, and education.

We’ll train you in the areas of corrections, criminology, forensic science, juvenile justice, law, policing, computer forensics, and other positions. Your courses will teach you the theories of crime and delinquency, as well as the logic, procedures, and ethical foundations associated with our nation's justice system. Finally, during your senior year, we'll set you up with an internship at an agency such as the FBI, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Drug Enforcement Agency, or the Jefferson County Family Court.

Art
Do you have a burning desire to express yourself through a variety of art media? Create art that transforms the world around you through a career in art direction, graphic design, museum curation, art conservation — or just about any other profession you can imagine.

From the moment you set foot on campus, we'll immerse you in the arts. Your coursework will teach you multiple disciplines of fine arts and design, and your access to UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts and the Birmingham Museum of Art will give you an intimate exposure to exhibits, displays, and special events. Choose an art studio concentration, and we'll encourage you to experiment with various styles. Concentrate in art history, and you'll focus on visual literacy and critical thinking.

Social Work

Bachelor of General Studies
The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) allows you to combine your academic interests, contribute to society in meaningful ways, and find full-time employment or compete for promotion. This major is designed for flexibility to help you achieve your goals. It emphasizes adaptability, thinking, writing, and communication skills.

The BGS helps prepare you mainly for support careers in various fields, including government, health care, real estate, general social services and the service-producing sector, law, retail, and private industry.

But to get there, you have to start here, with subjects like differential equations, advanced calculus, and mathematical modeling. A master of science in civil engineering equips engineers to advance in various industrial or academic career fields that emphasize high-level and collaborative research. An M.S. in civil engineering can serve as a step toward a Ph.D. in engineering, or it can provide the experience and credentials needed to increase competiveness in the job market. The program can be completed in as few as two years, though the typical student takes two courses per term for five semesters.
