This intensive fine arts program can give you a solid foundation for graduate school or prepare you for a career in graphic design, medical illustration, costume design, cinematography—the possibilities are practically endless.

We'll teach you the techniques of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, new media, and other art forms. But we'll take it one step further by preparing you for a career. We'll show you the business side of being an artist, with courses such as Professionalism, Project Management, and Entrepreneurship. And when your days in our program near their end, you'll participate in an exhibit at UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts to highlight your undergraduate journey and celebrate your accomplishments.

Study computer science, and you'll learn how to analyze a problem and find a computational solution. A BS in Computer Science can help you prepare for a career in software development, programming, research, network administration, web development, and much more.

With 48 hours of computer science courses, the Bachelor of Science (BS) offers students a more technical route than the Bachelor of Arts (BA), which requires 36 hours. Your coursework will include math and natural sciences, and core courses such as Discrete Structures, Automated and Formal Languages, and Programming Languages will give you a foundation in designing, building, and understanding computer-based systems, processes, and programs. Honors students may wish to research, write, and publish a formal scientific report or give an oral presentation. Information Systems are the backbone of modern organizations. Organizations need the best technological solutions to make sense of the data, and individuals who know how to develop them are in high demand, unlike some other computer related fields. Information Systems requires a blend of technical expertise and business savvy. The program provides a solid foundation in business information systems and business knowledge with a well-rounded business curriculum as well as specialized courses in information systems that deliver a broad understanding of how to leverage technology to achieve business goals.

This program is ideally suited for those who enjoy working with technology and with people. Graduates will be uniquely qualified to serve as liaisons between technical teams and management, and to facilitate collaborative approaches to solve business problems.

The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) allows you to combine your academic interests, contribute to society in meaningful ways, and find full-time employment or compete for promotion. Public Health
The BS in Public Health degree offers a broad overview of public health research and practice, introducing you to the multiple focus areas within public health (e.g., epidemiology, health behavior, health policy). Our students also gain hands-on experience working with community partners to improve the health of populations. Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the BS in Public Health degree is designed to prepare students to:

Mechanical Engineering
From building powerful machines to extracting power from them, mechanical engineers keep the world’s machinery operating. We can teach you how to design, build, and maintain these mechanical systems.
In fact, mechanical engineers provide solutions in manufacturing, productivity, workplace safety, and countless other areas. That's why we teach you not only the basics, but advanced topics like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mechanics of machinery, and mechanical design—plus give you hands-on lab experiences. You can also enhance your education with mechanical systems or energy systems electives. Best of all, you can earn a certification to teach general science with UABTeach, and you can earn your master's simultaneously with our fast-track program.
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) undergraduate program at UAB features small class sizes and the opportunity for one-on-one interactions between faculty members and students. The curriculum is designed to get students proficient in mechanical engineering science, with a mixture of mostly theoretical and mostly lab-based courses that explore all facets of mechanical engineering applications. During the senior year, a comprehensive design experience allows students to project, build, and test a mechanical device, while learning to work in groups and to overcome "real-life" obstacles (cost overruns, fabrication schedule delays, etc.).

Genetic and Genome Sciences
Genetics is a fundamental aspect of all biological processes and affects all facets of our lives. Understanding and analyzing the function and behavior of genes is critical to improving the quality of life for human beings and has far-reaching implications for our entire global ecosystem.

Traditionally viewed as a discipline within biological sciences, today, the study of genetics and genomics is an interdisciplinary exercise that involves multiple fields, including computational sciences and information systems.
It is also a rapidly advancing field in research and training. With the ever-increasing use of genetic tests, and of whole genome sequence information for disease diagnostics, there is a high demand for qualified and experienced genetics researchers and health-related professionals. The UAB Undergraduate Program in Genetics and Genomic Sciences (GGS) is designed to nurture a new generation of UAB undergraduates who will be ideally equipped to pursue and succeed in a career in academic or government research, medicine, biotechnology in industry, and other health-related sciences.
