African American Studies
The BA in African American Studies is an interdisciplinary program examining African life and culture, both on the African continent and the diaspora. As a student, you will learn about the African and African American experience from different perspectives including English, history, political science, sociology, and public health.

We are committed to educating and providing our students with knowledge and critical thinking skills to:

• Address social justice issues,
• Promote the diversity of ideas, and
• Understand the experiences, traditions, and history of African descended people.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is an emerging field that involves managing and analyzing large amounts of data about living things—data that will help us treat human diseases and make breakthroughs that will improve our lives. Graduates launch careers as data analysts, software engineers, research specialists, computational biologists, and data managers.

In fact, we specifically designed our bioinformatics program to prepare you for a wide range of career paths. We give you a solid foundation that includes biology, computer science, public health, math, genetics, and chemistry, as well as seminars, electives, and a capstone project. Then we show you how to put your knowledge to use with research projects, access to resources, internships, opportunities to study abroad, and other activities.

International Studies
International studies will give you an in-depth knowledge of what's happening around the world, letting you focus your courses on specific areas that interest you. We'll help prepare you for a career in a variety of fields, including international relations, business, journalism, economics, politics, diplomacy, and much more.

The number one asset you'll need for success is a keen understanding of today's world economy. That's why we offer you the option to focus on a variety of areas, including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Your curriculum will cover such topics as economics, socio-political awareness, and cultural literacy. We'll help you line up a study-abroad opportunity, participation in the Model Arab League, an internship with an international business, or another experience.

Do you have a burning desire to express yourself through a variety of art media? Create art that transforms the world around you through a career in art direction, graphic design, museum curation, art conservation — or just about any other profession you can imagine.

From the moment you set foot on campus, we'll immerse you in the arts. Your coursework will teach you multiple disciplines of fine arts and design, and your access to UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts and the Birmingham Museum of Art will give you an intimate exposure to exhibits, displays, and special events. Choose an art studio concentration, and we'll encourage you to experiment with various styles. Concentrate in art history, and you'll focus on visual literacy and critical thinking.

A marketing degree can give you the skills and knowledge necessary to be able to work in nearly any industry that exist today, particularly because marketing is such an important part of any business plan and involves understanding the importance of consumer relations, communication, and the various stakeholders involved. Marketing requires excellent analytical and communication skills.

A marketing degree can lead to a steady career path in sales or marketing management, public relations, fundraising, advertising, or promotions. Marketing graduates are hired by ad agencies and marketing firms of all sizes, as well as by business in virtually every industry sector.

Sociology
Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior. If you want to understand social behavior in the real world, sociology is where you find the answers. From large-scale social processes occurring in the wider society beyond the individual to the dynamics of social interaction within small groups, sociology investigates the complexities of human social relationships. Regardless of your chosen career path, having a critical understanding of the social world will put you at the forefront of your career field!

Graduates of sociology have gone on to careers in administration and management (in government, private business, and nonprofit organizations), marketing, sales, politics, communications, social services (youth, senior, and poverty), corrections/investigation (local, state, and federal), and public relations, just to name a few. In addition, a degree in sociology can help prepare you for many professional degree programs when paired with one of the pre-professional programs at UAB. Sociology graduates have gone on to law, business, and medical school.

Students who successfully complete an INTO UAB Graduate Pathway program in business are assured progression to a UAB graduate business degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. Master of Business Administration
The UAB MBA program is decision-oriented, focusing on key aspects of modern administration, and it seeks to prepare graduates for leadership roles in business, industry, government, or social services. In order to deal effectively with increasingly complex problems of organizations, managers require training in sophisticated analytical techniques, an appreciation for the behavioral facets of management, and an ability to anticipate and adapt to changes in the organizational environment.
At UAB, you learn from the experts - not only from nationally recognized faculty and course material that's based on real-world examples, but also from industry leaders doing business day to day in the largest business community in Alabama.

If you study economics, you'll find there's actually a science behind how and why money gets spent in a society. At UAB, we'll get you ready for a career in research, consulting, or other industry.

To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

Medical Sociology
Medical sociology looks at how a person's culture, feelings, and other social factors play a role in their health-care choices. A medical sociology degree can help prepare you for a career in health care, research, government data analysis, or other industries.

To begin your education, you'll take courses in medical sociology, medical social theory, and research methods/statistics. You'll then move on to electives on special topics that interest you, such as Death and Dying, Biology and Society, and Minority Aging. We know, some of these topics can get a little heavy—but they're important. And when you pair them with a pre-professional medical program, you'll have insights to social behaviors that can be invaluable to you throughout your career.
