Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is an emerging field that involves managing and analyzing large amounts of data about living things—data that will help us treat human diseases and make breakthroughs that will improve our lives. Graduates launch careers as data analysts, software engineers, research specialists, computational biologists, and data managers.

In fact, we specifically designed our bioinformatics program to prepare you for a wide range of career paths. We give you a solid foundation that includes biology, computer science, public health, math, genetics, and chemistry, as well as seminars, electives, and a capstone project. Then we show you how to put your knowledge to use with research projects, access to resources, internships, opportunities to study abroad, and other activities.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. The Master of Science in Cyber Security (formerly known as Computer Forensics and Security Management) (MSSec) is an interdisciplinary program that prepares graduates for a professional career in the field of cyber security by developing in them the necessary skills crucial for success. The program also provides current practitioners the opportunity to obtain advanced-level training to facilitate career advancement. The program includes a set of core, required courses and the opportunity to select from a default option or two tracks of specialization.

Mechanical Engineering
From building powerful machines to extracting power from them, mechanical engineers keep the world’s machinery operating. We can teach you how to design, build, and maintain these mechanical systems.
In fact, mechanical engineers provide solutions in manufacturing, productivity, workplace safety, and countless other areas. That's why we teach you not only the basics, but advanced topics like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mechanics of machinery, and mechanical design—plus give you hands-on lab experiences. You can also enhance your education with mechanical systems or energy systems electives. Best of all, you can earn a certification to teach general science with UABTeach, and you can earn your master's simultaneously with our fast-track program.
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) undergraduate program at UAB features small class sizes and the opportunity for one-on-one interactions between faculty members and students. The curriculum is designed to get students proficient in mechanical engineering science, with a mixture of mostly theoretical and mostly lab-based courses that explore all facets of mechanical engineering applications. During the senior year, a comprehensive design experience allows students to project, build, and test a mechanical device, while learning to work in groups and to overcome "real-life" obstacles (cost overruns, fabrication schedule delays, etc.).

Health Care Management
The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management (HCM) was established at UAB in 1982. The degree offers a pathway into entry and mid?level management careers for some and serves as a foundation for success in graduate?level academic or professional degree programs for others.
A successful healthcare practice not only has great providers—doctors, nurses, optometrists, dentists, and the like—it has high quality management. Our Health Care Management degree helps provide a pathway for students who want to go into mid-level management careers or continue onto a graduate program.

We designed this program for aspiring leaders, like you, who want to improve healthcare systems, including in hospitals, managed care organizations, medical group practices, consulting firms, government agencies, non-profits, and other companies in ambulatory, long-term care, insurance, and pharmaceutical. We have several concentrations to choose from depending on your academic work, current professional status, personal interests, and future goals. You'll also have the opportunity to earn your master's in occupational therapy, health informatics, or health-care quality and safety through our fast-track program.

High School Education
As a high-school teacher, you can have a tremendous influence over a person during some of their most formative years. In fact, what you teach someone can last a lifetime. At UAB, we can teach you the skills needed to become a high school educator.

To get started, you must first decide what subject you want to teach: science, social studies, math, or English language arts. If you study economics, you'll find there's actually a science behind how and why money gets spent in a society. At UAB, we'll get you ready for a career in research, consulting, or other industry.

To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

The Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) program is divided into two tracks:

• The Thesis Track program is designed to prepare students to pursue doctoral-level study in criminology, criminal justice, or a related field. Students selecting this option are required to complete a thesis project under a faculty adviser.
• The Non-Thesis Track program is geared toward working professionals and designed to provide to them advanced training in such areas as research methods, program evaluation, and policy analysis. Students selecting this option are required to complete a Demonstration Project and are strongly encouraged to complete a field placement (Internship).

The Charles and Patsy Collat Industrial Distribution (ID) Program is a rare degree program that puts you at the center of one of the fastest growing fields in business.  Distribution professionals manage the flow of materials from manufacturers to distributors to customers- which means they play a key role in propelling the economy forward by supplying the building blocks for the products America creates and the world buys. Industrial distributors supply government, industry, and manufacturers, with products necessary for business and health care operations.

Graduates are prepared for careers with manufacturers or distributors in technical industries for sales engineering, logistics, marketing, inventory and purchasing positions as well as branch management.
