Mathematics

In fact, many mathematics grads go on to work at NASA, Bell Labs, and even the National Security Agency. But to get there, you have to start here, with subjects like differential equations, advanced calculus, and mathematical modeling. If you're looking to further your education, consider our mathematics accelerated master's program, where you can complete both your bachelor's and master's in only four years. Anthropology—the study of humankind, past and present—has the widest scope of all the social sciences. With an understanding of other people and their cultures, you'll be prepared for a career in a variety of fields, including international business, law, teaching, forensic science, language interpretation, environmental conservation, or even museum curation.

Finance
In finance, we'll teach you how to address an age-old problem: How do you make more money and grow your business? With your BS, we'll train you to add value to all sorts of businesses, including multinational banks, investment firms, and other companies in every industry.

But before you can build that wealth, you need the educational foundation required to fuel your success. That's why our program begins with an exploration of financial planning, investing, valuation, risk management and more. After your core courses, we'll help you choose a track that best fits your career goals. Not to mention, our award-winning, student-managed investment fund, the UAB Green and Gold Fund, will give you real-world experience. Best of all, everything's available both on campus and online.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. Pre-arrival questions get answered. Travel fears get addressed. Help with everything from tutoring to career guidance—at the ready for IMP students.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) is the most wellknown Public Health degree. It is considered a “terminal” or “professional” degree, as it fully prepares individuals for lifelong careers in public health practice without the need for additional education.

Industrial Hygiene - Concentration
The Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) with a concentration in Industrial Hygiene presents students with an option to focus on industrial hygiene topics and provide a dedicated research experience. Industrial hygiene professionals must be able to recognize, evaluate, and control occupational situations that may lead to disease or injuries. They may also need expertise in designing and conducting studies of occupational sites to assess the probability that exposures present a risk to workers, to define safe limits for human exposures, and set in place control measures.

The research aspect of this curriculum is conducted under the requirements of the UAB Graduate School and requires conducting research under an advisor’s supervision and writing and defending a master’s research thesis. The industrial hygiene program is part of the Deep South Center for Occupational Health and Safety, one of 18 Education and Research Centers supported by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Funding is available for eligible applicants through the center.

Our goal is to enable students to:

• Demonstrate knowledge on the scientific principles and fundamentals of industrial hygiene.
• Use sampling and analytical methods to conduct occupational exposure assessment.
• Demonstrate the fundamentals in controlling occupational exposure hazards.
• Apply fundamental concepts of industrial hygiene theory to real life practical cases.
• Explain knowledge on fundamental concepts of occupational safety and health.
• Apply the basic regulations and standards of industrial hygiene and occupational health and safety to real field situations.

Immunology
Immunology is the study of the immune system, including the cells, organs, tissues, and the function the system plays in protecting humans against infectious diseases. It's the perfect foundation for a career in health care, biomedical research, or nearly anything that requires a white coat.

In fact, immunology is a collaborative field, and that's why your training will come from a broad spectrum of the scientific community. You'll take classes in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, taught through both our medical school and biology department. And, we’ll help you prepare for a continued education or career in fields such as biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, infectious diseases, neurobiology, endocrinology, and cardiology.

Electrical Engineering
If electric currents, self-driving cars, and the latest smartphone apps get you amped, you should consider a degree in electrical and computer engineering. This degree can help you pursue a career in electric power, aerospace, computer engineering, consulting, defense, or the environment.

How do we do it? First, we'll hardwire you with a strong foundation of electrical engineering fundamentals. Your courses will cover topics such as analog and digital electronics, microprocessor applications, biomedical instrumentation, digital computer systems, software systems, electric utility power systems, digital control, industrial electronics, and machinery control. Then, through your capstone design experience, we'll plug you in with a team so you can prove your ability to design, develop, and test real solutions to engineering problems. You'll even be able to earn a teaching certification in mathematics through UABTeach and apply your STEM knowledge in the classroom.

The goals of the ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering are to prepare graduates for the following:

Human Resource Management
A business can't succeed without the right employees, and at UAB, we can teach you how to build, manage, and grow a successful team. With a degree in human resource management, you can choose to work with businesses big and small and in many different industries.

In fact, there are very high standards for this field set by the Society for Human Resource Management, and we've designed our curriculum specifically to meet those standards. That's why, in addition to your core and elective coursework, we're going to provide you with the opportunity to participate in an internship, research project, or study-abroad trip. Best of all, you can complete your degree on campus or online.

As a mechanical engineer, the devices you design are critical to our modern economy and future innovation. A master’s degree can help you learn advanced engineering methods and give you research opportunities.

We've developed a research-intensive curriculum, with unique hands-on experiences and mentorship from our faculty. As you earn your degree, you'll have the option of choosing a path with or without a thesis. With a thesis, you’ll take more mathematics courses, which can be beneficial if you want to pursue a doctoral degree. Data Science
The Master of Science in Data Science program prepares graduate students for a professional career in the field of big data. Students will be equipped with fundamental knowledge and skills in data science and analytics, including:

• Machine learning,
• Modelling and quantitative analysis of massive datasets,
• Application of such technologies in strategic decisions,
• Critical skills for collecting and managing massive datasets, and
• Implementation of efficient solutions to real world big data problems using the most appropriate algorithmic techniques and software development tools available.

The program includes a set of core required courses and provides an opportunity for students to select from a wide range of electives related to data analytics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, business intelligence, and cyber security.

Health Care Management
The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management (HCM) was established at UAB in 1982. The degree offers a pathway into entry and mid?level management careers for some and serves as a foundation for success in graduate?level academic or professional degree programs for others.
A successful healthcare practice not only has great providers—doctors, nurses, optometrists, dentists, and the like—it has high quality management. Our Health Care Management degree helps provide a pathway for students who want to go into mid-level management careers or continue onto a graduate program.

We designed this program for aspiring leaders, like you, who want to improve healthcare systems, including in hospitals, managed care organizations, medical group practices, consulting firms, government agencies, non-profits, and other companies in ambulatory, long-term care, insurance, and pharmaceutical. We have several concentrations to choose from depending on your academic work, current professional status, personal interests, and future goals. You'll also have the opportunity to earn your master's in occupational therapy, health informatics, or health-care quality and safety through our fast-track program.
