Earning a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling will help you be prepared for the high demand, rapidly evolving field of genomic medicine. A bachelor’s level education in accounting can lead to a wide variety of career choices in business, finance, insurance, investing, tax or auditing. It also paves the way to a master’s degree and future opportunities in financial management. Accounting graduates are hired by accounting firms, banks, private companies, non-profit organizations, insurance companies, government agencies, and corporations.

The Master of Science in Data Science program prepares graduate students for a professional career in the field of big data. Students will be equipped with fundamental knowledge and skills in data science and analytics, including:

• Machine learning,
• Modelling and quantitative analysis of massive datasets,
• Application of such technologies in strategic decisions,
• Critical skills for collecting and managing massive datasets, and
• Implementation of efficient solutions to real world big data problems using the most appropriate algorithmic techniques and software development tools available.

Community Health and Human Services
A healthy community doesn't just happen—it takes education, coaching, program development, and, most important, people who care to make a difference. At UAB, you'll gain a full understanding of the human body and prepare for a career helping others live healthy lives.

As you begin the program, we'll sit down with you to help you determine your career goals. Based on those goals, you'll choose a concentration of either community health or human services. In community health, you'll learn about policies, programs, anatomy, and nutrition for the well-being of both individuals and communities. If you choose human services, which is offered both online and on campus, we'll cover topics such as case management, public policy, and intervention.

Communication Studies
Communication, whether verbal or nonverbal, is one of the most important skills prized by employers today. It can be an essential tool for success in a wide range of fields, including sales, emergency management, client service, public relations, and much more.

That's why, at UAB, we made this program so intensive. We want to make you the best communicator you can be. To begin, you will take classes covering topics such as writing, interviewing, pitching, and nonverbal communication skills. Then, you will also take leadership and management classes. Finally, your specific concentration will help you tailor your knowledge and experience. Choose from communication management, sports communication, or mass communication, which includes broadcasting, journalism, and public relations.

Musical Theatre
As a musical theatre student, you'll learn about acting, voice, singing, music, movement, and dance. Whether you want to be an actor, singer, dancer, or another performance artist, we will show you the ins-and-outs of working in theatre in New York, Los Angeles, or elsewhere.

Your entry into musical theatre begins with an Introduction to Theatre or an Introduction to Dance, followed by coursework designed to further develop your dance skills. You'll begin to apply these skills through musical theatre performances, acting, theatre technology, and other experiences, such as our NYC Showcase course. Finally, you'll participate in at least four main stage productions per year, plus studio productions. In the end, you will have had both hands-on and classroom experience in many different areas of musical theatre.

African American Studies
The BA in African American Studies is an interdisciplinary program examining African life and culture, both on the African continent and the diaspora. As a student, you will learn about the African and African American experience from different perspectives including English, history, political science, sociology, and public health.

We are committed to educating and providing our students with knowledge and critical thinking skills to:

• Address social justice issues,
• Promote the diversity of ideas, and
• Understand the experiences, traditions, and history of African descended people.

You may already feel like a computer expert, but in this program, you will find that you have more to learn about big data, cyber security, mobile applications, and other trending topics related to software engineering, analytical, database and other careers.

This program is open to students with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, such as engineering. There are computer science and math prerequisites necessary for this degree. Once they're done, you'll have 30 hours of coursework to do, which can be finished in 18 months if you're in school full time. You'll take classes such as Database Systems, Network Security, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. We'll also ask you to choose between two plan options, depending on what your goals are for your future. If you want to do research, continue your graduate studies, or pursue a professional program, you should pick Plan I (thesis option). For those interested in transitioning to the computer science field, Plan II (non-thesis option) is better. Your coursework here will include specializations in bioinformatics, computer graphics, and distributed computing.

The graduate history program provides students an opportunity to work closely with faculty who are active research scholars in a wide variety of fields, covering periods ranging from classical antiquity to post-war Europe, and geographic specializations including the United States, Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Students completing the M.A. degree receive a solid grounding in research methods, historical writing, and the scholarly literature in their chosen area of concentration. Our students are a diverse group hailing from throughout Alabama, across the country, and around the world, who go on to pursue careers as teachers at the secondary and post-secondary levels, museum workers, historic preservationists, lawyers, journalists, and knowledge workers in a variety of other professions in which rigorous thinking, meticulous research skills, and good writing are in demand.
