Mass Communications-M.A.
The Master of Arts in Mass Communications degree requires 39 credit hours, including at least 30 hours of structured coursework and successful completion of a final thesis or applied research project. The Master of Arts in Mass Communications is earned through one of two concentrations: Media Studies or Strategic Communication Management.

The media studies concentration uses a broad approach to study mass media. This is ideal for students who wish to explore how media shapes the world and, in turn, how the world shapes the media.

The strategic communication track focuses on communication as a management function in an organization. This perspective integrates public relations, advertising, and marketing communication into a single focus.

Urban and Regional Planning-M.A.
The goal of the major is to train students to become planning practitioners capable of working in a variety of public, nonprofit, and private sector environments in a number of different fields. We prepare leaders in the field of urban and regional planning to meet community, national and global needs.

Social Work
The University of South Florida offers a program of study leading to a Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) degree in the School of Social Work, College of Behavioral & Community Sciences. The B.S.W. has been developed in accordance with the guidelines of the Council on Social Work Education, the national accrediting body for social work education programs, and in accordance with the recommendations of the National Association of Social Workers. The B.S.W. program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and is a limited access program. The primary objective of the B.S.W. program is the preparation of the graduate for beginning level professional practice as a social work generalist. The secondary objectives of the B.S.W. program are to:

• Provide for the social work human resources needs of the university service district (the central Florida west coast area), the State of Florida, and the Southeast Region;
• Prepare graduates for additional professional training at the graduate level in social work or in related human service professions;
• Provide an exposure to social work as a profession and to contemporary issues in the social welfare field.

In preparing the B.S.W. graduate for beginning professional practice, the curriculum provides students with an opportunity to develop a knowledge base and skill base as a “generalist” practitioner. Students will develop an understanding of various methods of intervention and skills in their application to a variety of client systems. For example, intervention methods may take the form of individual and group counseling, resource development, consultation, teaching, advocacy, etc. Client systems may be individuals, families, groups, organizations, or communities. The student will develop an understanding of the dynamics of human behavior in individual, group and organizational contexts and the influences of the socio-cultural environment upon those behaviors. The student will learn about the development of social welfare systems and institutions and the social, economic, and political processes affecting policy development and program implementation. The student will develop an understanding of the utilization of basic social research skills particularly related to the processes of problem-solving, planning, and evaluation. The student will also become aware of the value base of the profession and engage in a self-examination process as it relates to the development and reflection of ethical and effective professional practice. The B.S.W. program places great emphasis on the development of a professionally responsible graduate in terms of one’s obligations to the client system served, the profession itself, the organization in which one works, and to the general public which ultimately provides any profession with legitimacy.

Sociology
The Sociology major is designed to provide students with a broad liberal arts education and a greater understanding and insight into the social systems and processes that bear upon everyday lives. Opportunities for students with Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology are quite varied. Some go on to work for human service agencies; others work in personnel, criminal justice, and urban planning; others enter graduate programs in sociology, education, law, medicine, or social work. Toward these ends, all students are encouraged to become skilled in the use of computers and libraries.

The B.S. in Supply Chain Management equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in the supply chain industry. Supply chain management is a business function that ensures the efficient and effective management of the flow of goods, services and finances among firms around the world to transform raw materials into finished products along with management reverse flows (e.g., defective or damaged products, product returns, end-of-life disposal) in a sustainable manner. Graduates from this program enter the workforce in supply chain positions across multiple types of companies including manufacturing, distribution, transportation, and retailing. Students gain field-based experience through a required internship and a project in the capstone course.

Physics
The B.S. program is intended for students planning to pursue graduate studies in physics or a closely related field.

Statistics
Statistics is a science of information gathering, data analysis, and decision making. It is a discipline that blends the applied with the theoretical and our courses reflect this mix. These courses provide an excellent preparation for careers in industrial statistics, actuarial science, biostatistics, and statistical research.

Economics offers a clear and logical way of thinking about complicated issues such as unemployment, inflation, pollution, and crime. The Department of Economics offers broad course choices allowing students to tailor their programs to provide training for professional careers in business, teaching, government, and law. The Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of South Florida, in  partnership with the Colleges of Business and Engineering,  Morsani College of Medicine and the Patel College of Global Sustainability, has established a novel, innovative, and unique major in interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies. The Master’s of Science Degree Program in Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies is an innovative major and consists of courses that will consolidate the Entrepreneurship education and training for successful opportunity recognition and development, technology and market assessment, technology commercialization, new venture formation, and new venture financing into a single inter-disciplinary program curriculum utilizing faculty and courses in the Colleges of Business, Engineering, Medicine, and Global Sustainability.

Geology incorporates the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics to study the earth and the processes that affect our planet.  This degree offers advanced geoscience education and training suitable for joining professional workforce and/or as the foudnatino for pursuing a Ph.D.
