The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers an MA degree in Statistics. The major provides the experience and knowledge to understand and appreciate prior accomplishments in the discipline and develops the skills necessary for a meaningful contribution to the intellectual advancement and applications of the discipline. It prepares its graduates to pursue long-term careers in their field by providing solid and cutting-edge knowledge.

The Department of Chemistry offers Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, and Non-thesis Master of Arts degrees. The Chemistry graduate faculty is comprised of full-time senior faculty members, all holding the Ph.D. degree. The combination of a large and strong faculty with a wide variety of courses provides students with programs of study that can be tailored to fit individual needs, while maintaining a sound background in all general aspects of Chemistry. The Department of History at the University of South Florida offers MA applicants an enriching program of study, coursework, and directed research.  A master’s degree in History can prepare students for a variety of careers in the public and private sectors where research, critical thinking, and writing skills are especially important.

Anthropology
Anthropology aims at comprehending people as biological and social beings. It is concerned with all forms of people through time and space. This holistic and broad-ranging view is reflected by the presence within the Anthropology program of four branches or sub-fields: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, and Linguistics. Exposure to anthropological information and the cross-cultural perspective produces heightened sensitivity in the student to the world about him/her. This helps the student to adopt an intellectual posture of disciplined skepticism with respect to any scheme that purports to define and account for regularities in human life. Students majoring in other fields may find Anthropology coursework an exciting and valuable supplement to their primary academic interest.

This program has been certified as a Global Pathway, which has significant global content. Students in Global Pathway programs are well positioned to earn the Global Citizen Award and become eligible to apply for a study abroad scholarship offered by the Global Citizens Project.

The undergraduate Marine Biology program explores the ecology of marine environments and the nature of organisms inhabiting the oceans. The objective of this program is to augment the students’ foundation in basic biology with specialized knowledge and skills in marine biology that address contemporary issues such as coastal resilience, coastal pollution, diseases of marine organisms and restoring damaged habitats. An emphasis on data collection and research methods in the field and laboratory will ready students for employment in places such as consulting firms, environmental agencies, aquaria, and parks, while also preparing them for graduate school.   Internships, undergraduate research experiences, upper-level seminars, and reading from the primary literature will develop critical thinking skills and prepare students to address the many complex issues in marine biology, thereby practicing critical thinking and the application of science to grand societal/economic challenges.

Africana Studies is a liberal arts program offering a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies, a Minor in Africana Studies and a Certificate in Africana Literatures. This program provides all students with the opportunity to study the history, culture and lived experiences of people of African descent–on the African continent and throughout the world. Students also study the influence of Africa and people of African descent on the world at-large. The Africana Studies curriculum also explores the social construction of race and racism and encourages the development of critical thinking skills while also challenging students to explore new ideas, seek new connections and become actively engaged in the global community.

The curriculum in Art History reflects the belief that a traditional liberal arts program, supplemented by travel, is the best preparation for students who wish to teach the history of art at the college level or work in museums and galleries. Students will not specialize in a particular area such as Renaissance or Modern, but will acquire a general knowledge of the history of art. All Art History majors are required to take at least one 4000-level non-Western Art History course. Courses in areas such as history, philosophy, and literature are recommended as electives, both as supplement to undergraduate courses in art history and as a background for future graduate work. Art History majors are required to take courses in studio art as a means of better understanding what is involved in the art making process. It is important that students make every effort to travel to major museums in this country and, if possible, abroad.

Religious Studies-M.A.
The M.A. degree in Religious Studies provides opportunities for students with backgrounds in the scholarly study of religion to expand their knowledge of the social, cultural, intellectual, and historical contexts of religion, to develop a greater in-depth knowledge of particular religious traditions, and to acquire proficiency with a variety of pertinent methodologies and theoretical perspectives. The degree serves the needs of students who pursue careers in health professions in education, journalism, law, business, politics, and social work. It will be of special value to those interested in pursuing a doctorate in religious studies.

Electrical Engineering
The Electrical Engineering major offers study in all areas fundamental to the analysis, design, and development of electrical devices and systems. ?The areas covered by the major include foundational topics such as circuits and electrical power, to applications such as Internet of Things, Smart Grid, Security,  and Data Analytics. The major offers curriculum tracks that include: Bioelectrical Systems, Communication Systems, Energy, Power and Sustainability, Mechatronics, Robotics and Embedded Systems, Micro and Nano-scale Systems and Wireless Systems.
