The Department of Electrical Engineering offers both doctoral and masters level degrees. The major areas of research and instruction in the Department are: semiconductor materials, microelectronic manufacturing, MEMS, nanotechnology, VLSI design, digital signal processing, communication theory, wireless communications, microwave engineering, power systems and controls, network theory, cyber secruity, and biomedical materials and imaging. The Department’s research efforts are supported by well-equipped laboratories in the areas of silicon processing, compound semiconductors, electro-optics, IC design, thin dielectric films, communications and signal processing, power systems, nanotechnology, MEMS, micro/millimeter waves, biomedical materials and imaging, and bio-electrical engineering.

The Bachelor of Arts program is designed primarily for the liberal arts student who has an interest in careers in Geoscience education or environmental policy and law. A student who elects the B.A. program and decides to pursue the geology profession or attend graduate school will need at least field geology in his/her program.

The Sociology M.A. provides a foundation in a broad range of sociological theories and research methods and an opportunity for pursuing specialized interests in elective Sociology courses, courses in other departments, and thesis research. Many of our M.A. recipients continue in a sociology Ph.D. Others teach in secondary schools and junior colleges, are employed in mental health services and research, in human resources management, and government organizations, or work as research consultants and market analysts.

The School of Music also invites guest composers, conductors, and performing musicians to enhance its performances and to provide master classes, symposia, and clinics for students and the public. Many USF music alumni are currently performers in a variety of concert settings and successful teachers in public schools, colleges, and universities around the country in a variety of concert settings. The School of Music at USF offers the student the opportunity to study with distinguished faculty and to be in the company of other superior music students for an exciting and exacting period of study.

The Master of Music degree provides students with an opportunity to pursue intense, focused study in their music specialty, coupled with a vigorous, balanced curriculum in music theory, music literature, and electives. Students in this major are mentored expertly by senior faculty and exhibit mastery of their specialty at the end of the course of study by way of appropriate capstone experiences, including recitals or theses and comprehensive examinations. The provisions and balance of these experiences comport precisely with the curriculum guidelines required by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Digital Communication & Multimedia Journalism
The Bachelor of Arts in Digital Communication and Multimedia Journalism is a hands-on program that allows students to prepare for careers in journalism, digital media, promotional communication, web development, photography, videography and other jobs requiring production of digital media content.

Physics
The B.S. program is intended for students planning to pursue graduate studies in physics or a closely related field.

Graphic Arts with Illustration Concentration
The Graphic Arts degree offers students a sequence of rigorous courses that balance critical thinking and pragmatic experience, complemented by the enriched experience of the liberal arts environment of the University of South Florida.

Graphic artists develop the images that give voice to the world around us. Using their raw materials - the ability to think, draw, write, speak and design - students learn the skills to solve specific visual problems. The study of typography, design concepts, and digital technology develops an understanding of the tradition, practice, and process of graphic design.

This program guides students in building the imagination, aesthetic sensitivity, and powers of critical thought required to succeed as visual communicators. The curriculum emphasizes expertise in image development, typography, print and screen-based graphics, and interactive design. The program prepares students for the rigor of professional design practice through an internship program, courses in production, and portfolio development. Additionally, students design, organize and promote an exhibition of their final senior project.

Accounting
The objective of the baccalaureate degree program in Accountancy is to provide students with accounting and business knowledge that will serve as a basis for careers in industry, government, non-profit organizations and public accountancy. The baccalaureate program also prepares students for entry into the Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) professional degree program. The State of Florida requires completion of 120 semester hours to sit for the CPA examination and 150 semester hours are required for licensure.

Religious Studies
In Religious Studies, students are exposed to a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary study of the way in which both individuals and civilizations are deeply influenced by human religious experience. The goal is to enable the educated person to understand better the various ways in which religious values and institutions shape human behavior through a comparative study of religions and cultures. Such an education is invaluable for careers as diverse as journalism, law, medicine, business, as well as careers more directly related to the practice of religion. Majors in Religious Studies will also find courses designed to give them the methodological, theoretical and linguistic skills needed to go on to advanced graduate study in the field.

This program has been certified as a Global Pathway. Global Pathway programs have significant global content and align with the goals of USF’s Quality Enhancement Plan, the Global Citizens Project. Students in Global Pathway programs are well positioned to earn the Global Citizen Award and become eligible to apply for a study abroad scholarship offered by the Global Citizens Project.

The Electrical Engineering major offers study in all areas fundamental to the analysis, design, and development of electrical devices and systems. ?The areas covered by the major include foundational topics such as circuits and electrical power, to applications such as Internet of Things, Smart Grid, Security,  and Data Analytics. The major offers curriculum tracks that include: Bioelectrical Systems, Communication Systems, Energy, Power and Sustainability, Mechatronics, Robotics and Embedded Systems, Micro and Nano-scale Systems and Wireless Systems.
