We offer two tracks within the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food program: Food Service Management; and Nutrition, Wellness, and Health Promotion.

Do you have a passion for food? It's time to put it to use
In the Food Service Management track, you'll focus on the controls of the food service system — like accounting, budgeting, pricing and regulations — and critically understand the theories and applications of human resources management, marketing and organizational design.

Through in-depth team projects, our students focus on modern food production, design, quality and productivity. You'll understand the health effects of nutrient inadequacies and excesses — and learn the value of producing quality food to achieve organizational and nutritional goals.

Are you interested in communicating nutrition information through social media, believe in exercise as part of a holistic approach, and have an entrepreneurial spirit? In the Nutrition, Wellness, and Health Promotion track you will work across disciplines to gain an appreciation for communicating sound nutrition information to targeted populations and communities to encourage individuals to make healthy decisions. You’ll learn to assess and evaluate community programs, while taking advantage of our location to work in a wide range of program sites.

Our students apply their skills through internships at organizations like Panera Bread, Women's Lunch Place, Rosie's Place, The Boston Elder Protective Services Program, Aramark and the Somerville Health Department. Our graduates are leaders in the food service management industry and find success as directors, planners and managers.

Health informatics is a rapidly growing field that strives to improve the quality and safety of patient care.

Make a difference in health care
With a firm foundation in information technology and computer science, our students tackle critical issues — like how to improve healthcare information security, manage clinical workflow tasks, provide information systems which support research and clinicians' work, and control health information databases — and solve real-world problems.

Through hands-on learning our students can learn about tele-health, Electronic Health Records implementation, and other exciting transformations in the health care industry. Alongside our experienced faculty, you'll apply concepts, theories and practices to achieve better health outcomes.

Our students are well-prepared for careers in IT departments at hospitals, health care centers, and in companies developing software for the health care industry.

Our students study the universal laws of the natural world to understand the devices that transform our lives, from pacemakers and artificial limbs to integrated circuits and rocket engines.

Premed students and other science majors often major or minor in physics as well to enhance and differentiate their backgrounds and widen their research experiences.

Studying English nurtures your creative spirit while sharpening your skills
You'll study poetry, drama, novels, children's literature, films, and television—guided by award-winning faculty with expertise in prose, poetry, drama, children's literature, and media studies—and discover your own style and talent as an analytical and creative writer, as well as your own skills as a literary critic.

Our students go on to careers in law, publishing, advertising, business, government service, technology, media, journalism, writing and teaching. As an English major, with the ability to read carefully, analyze complex and sophisticated material, and communicate clearly in written and verbal form, your skills will always be in demand.

The Bachelor of Science in Biology degree program at Simmons University explores the vast discipline of biology—including animal and plant physiology, developmental biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, ecology, and biotechnology.

Biology is the study of life and includes a broad range of biological disciplines. Undergraduate students are well- prepared for graduate studies and careers with a strong foundation in biological principles and methodology, as a result of the department’s student centered classroom, laboratory, and research experience. Biology is the science and study of life. All living things fall under the umbrella of biology: humans, animals, plants—it is an enormous and all-encompassing discipline that consists of many fields and subfields. Biology is critical to medicine and healthcare, forensics, technology, and wildlife and environmental conservation.

A bachelor’s degree in Biology from Simmons cultivates an extensive understanding of the basic principles of biology, including the structure, biochemistry, function, and metabolism of cells, as well as genetics and the theory of evolution.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Neuroscience and Behavior degree blends social, natural, mathematical, and life sciences to address the intriguing issues related to behavior and experience.

Have you ever wondered what makes people act the way they do? The interdisciplinary field of Neuroscience and Behavior explores the nervous systems of the body and how they influence the expression of human behavior. It is a complex and ever-evolving study comprised of extensive research of the mind, combining aspects of psychology and biology to dig deeper into the biological bases of behavior, conscious experience, and the relationship between physical and mental health.

Why study Neuroscience and Behavior?
Through the Bachelor’s in Neuroscience and Behavior degree, students closely examine cognition, behavior, and emotion in order to better understand the layers and intricacies of the mind and nervous systems. From this meticulous scientific study of the brain, students can reveal reasoning for much grander expressions and psychological patterns, as well as how disease and disorder can change behavior.

Molecular, cellular, and behavioral studies intersect together through an engaging and rigorous curriculum that covers core courses in biology, psychological science, statistics, chemistry, biological psychology, research methods, and the philosophy of mind. The Computer Science major will help you learn to think critically, logically, and abstractly. You will gain both an understanding of the underlying theory and concepts of computing, as well as the facility to integrate theory with practice. Simmons students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science write software that improves quality of life, create incredibly powerful websites, design and implement systems, and develop new technology.
