The Sustainable Plant and Soil Systems major, with concentrations in Environmental Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, and Turfgrass Science, focuses on the science and practices associated with sustainable plant production and/or use within managed systems. Courses emphasize practices and concepts related to reducing environmental impact during production and in managed land use systems.

Concentrations focus on the production of ornamental and edible crops in controlled environments, greenhouses, nurseries and on farms; management practices for built landscapes and surfaces used for recreational and sporting activities, and the selection and management of ornamental trees, shrubs, grasses, native species, and plants and soils that perform ecosystem services in recreational, urban, and suburban settings to meet functional and aesthetic requirements. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, and developing and applying knowledge to solve contemporary problems in individual and team approaches. Students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience through internships

The Bachelor of Arts in Music with no emphasis is ideal for students looking for comprehensive study in music and is well suited to students looking to pursue a dual degree. While still requiring intensive study in music history, theory and aural skills, applied lessons, and ensemble work, this degree offering allows for a more flexible schedule. The Bachelor of Arts in Music thoroughly prepares students wishing to pursue graduate degrees in music, as well.

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in music has undergone a significant curricular revision that allows students to pursue their desire to study music and at the same time pursue other academic interests, including majors or minors in other departments and programs within the University.

The major in Environmental Sciences is based in the physical and biological sciences, but also includes course work in selected areas of the social sciences. The major leads to a Bachelor of Science degree, and may be adopted by students in either the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This curriculum offers a comprehensive approach to the study of environmental problems, including not only a rigorous scientific background, but also detailed analyses of the social and economic implications of environmental issues. The complexity and interdisciplinary nature of environmental science is reflected in the core requirements of the major. These courses, assembled from several different academic departments representing two colleges, provide both breadth and depth, preparing students for careers that deal with environmental issues and for graduate study in environmental sciences and related fields.

The Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) program concentrates its research, instruction, and community outreach on a multidisciplinary understanding of a healthy development and wellbeing of individuals and families over the lifespan, interactions and processes within families, and individuals and families in societal and cultural contexts. Individualized mentorship, innovation and leadership, diversity and equity, and applied/translational science are the fundamental values that guide UConn's commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and public engagement.

Physics, a fundamental and quantitative science, involves the study of matter and energy, and interactions between them. The subject is generally divided into mechanics, electricity and magnetism, statistical and thermal physics, and quantum physics. These form the foundation for present-day research areas, which include astrophysics, atomic, molecular and optical physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, and the physics of particles and fields. In addition to a knowledge of physics, students gain a rigorous training in logical thinking and quantitative problem solving. An education in physics can also provide an entry into many other fields such as biophysics, geophysics, medical physics, and engineering, as well as into less technical fields such as secondary education, technical sales, and science writing. Many students have also found that physics is an excellent preparation for the study of medicine, dentistry, or law.

The School of Engineering is excited to launch a new major in Multidisciplinary Engineering (MDE). As the name implies, this major draws from multiple different engineering disciplines and provides students with a broad background to work in numerous engineering fields.

The Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences major is a pre-professional program within the liberal arts and sciences curriculum. It provides a broad overview of normal speech, language and hearing development. In addition a variety of speech, language, and hearing disorders are introduced. This major permits the student to apply for graduate studies in one of two specialty areas: audiology or speech-language pathology.

The Design/Tech BFA program prepares candidates for entry-level positions in the areas of design, management, technology and craft professions in theatre and other parts of the entertainment industry. Upon completing this program, some students advance to graduate-level professional training at a variety of institutions throughout the country. Undergraduate Design/Tech majors have the opportunity to study and work in all areas, including Scenery Design, Construction & Rigging, Costume Design and Construction, Lighting Design, Properties Design & Construction, and Sound Design. Coursework combines with practical work on CRT productions. Advanced undergraduates with particular promise often serve as assistant designers or designers for CRT Studio Works productions.

Outstanding undergraduates have even worked as principal designers of CRT Mainstage productions. Informal assessments by the Design/Technical faculty in the student's freshman and sophomore years are helpful in providing feedback, sharpening focus and encouraging candidates with demonstrated an aptitude to continue in the program. Junior and senior BFA Design/Tech majors participate in portfolio reviews at the end of each semester and are encouraged to enter U/RTA (University and Regional Theatre Association) Final Competitions in New York City in January to compete for positions in Professional Regional Theatres and member graduate school programs throughout the country.

Unlike many fields of study in which students take few courses in their major during their early semesters, BFA Dramatic Arts Students begin intensive training in their chosen field immediately upon entering UConn. In a BFA program, approximately half of your college courses are in your chosen field of study. Most of the remaining credits you will take constitute the university's General Education Requirements in writing, math, history, humanities, science and social science. You will take from one to three general education courses per semester, depending on your semester standing.

The UConn School of Business Center for Real Estate is a top program for real estate research and is regularly ranked among the top 10 real estate programs in the U.S. Its impressive academic credentials are matched by a strong emphasis on real-world problem solving, and our activities embrace many disciplines including finance, statistics, economics and geography. The Center for Real Estate offers scholarship opportunities, resume book and job opportunities, and industry and student networking through the Real Estate Society field trips. The Center functions as an academic partner to the real estate industry. Many UConn Real Estate students begin their professional careers as interns, placed with the Center's assistance. Real estate professionals and alumni support the Center by sponsoring events and providing scholarships. Firms recruit graduating students for positions in real estate acquisitions, analysis, appraisal, development, dispositions, investment, research, and valuation.
