The Master of Arts degree in Biology is for students wishing to gain additional knowledge in any area of the biological sciences. This is a non-thesis master's degree designed for secondary school science teachers, individuals looking for additional background or preparation for professional school (e.g. medicine, dentistry or Ph.D. programs) and those seeking employment in life science industries in a non-research capacity.

The Biology major includes the following concentration:

• The Cellular and Molecular Biology concentration provides a heavy focus on cell-to-cell interactions and signaling pathways to give students a deep understanding of the cellular and molecular processes that occur within cells and physiological systems.

Students who declare the Biology major with no concentration will select their area of specialization in consultation with an academic faculty advisor.

The Bachelor of Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Technology degree is designed for students pursuing studies related to medical imaging.

Job opportunities for CT and MRI technologists, sonographers and therapists exist in hospitals, surgical centers, clinics, physician offices and other healthcare facilities. .

The Radiologic and Imaging Sciences major comprising the following concentrations:

• The Computed Tomography concentration uses specialized x-ray equipment to create sectional images of the human body. Each cross-sectional image reveals complex information about body structures that are used for a variety of reasons (i.e., diagnostic, treatment planning, interventional or screening).
  • Computed Tomography concentration for students who completed an A.A.S. degree in Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Therapy
  • Computed Tomography concentration for students who completed a hospital-based certificate or A.T.S. degree in Radiologic Technology and American Registry of Radiologic Technologist certification examination
• The Diagnostic Medical Sonography concentration uses medical ultrasound (high frequency sound waves that produce images of internal structures) to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases, as well as monitor fetal development.
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography concentration for new students (freshmen) and students who completed an associate degree
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography concentration for students who completed an A.A.S. degree in Radiologic Technology
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography concentration for students who completed a hospital-based certificate program or A.T.S. degree in Radiologic Technology and American Registry of Radiologic Technologist certification examination
• The Magnetic Resonance Imaging concentration uses a powerful magnet, radio waves, and computers to create sectional images of the human body. The images reveal complex information about body structures and the chemical changes that occur as a result of the onset of disease.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging concentration for students who completed an A.A.S. degree in Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Therapy
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging concentration for students who completed a hospital-based certificate or A.T.S. degree in Radiologic Technology and American Registry of Radiologic Technologist certification examination
• The Radiation Therapy concentration uses specialized high energy treatment units to administer therapeutic doses of radiation to cancer patients.

The Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies is intended to provide a broad spectrum of knowledge about human communication in various social contexts, and the ways in which information is produced and processed. Curriculum focus is on the social and behavioral study of communication theory and research. The program prepares individuals to pursue a doctorate degree, as well as for non-academic careers in which a broad understanding of communication theory and research is desirable.

• Read, critique and engage in theory-based research involving a broad spectrum of topics in human communication.
• Understand and master appropriate methodological skills for the study of human communication and apply them to relevant and shifting real-world contexts that often include newer communication technologies.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry allows students greater flexibility in choosing electives than the B.S. degree. Although not intended for students planning to become practicing chemists, the B.A. degree program is well suited for those needing a strong chemistry background as preparation for other career opportunities.

The program may be used to meet pre-medicine and pre-dentistry requirements when appropriate courses from the biological sciences are used to fulfill elective hours. However, the B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry concentration, is strongly recommended for students interested in medical or dental school.

Students in the program have the opportunity to participate in an exchange program with the University of Leicester in England.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in French provides opportunity for students to study the language, literature and culture of France and Francophone countries. Students gain a respectable measure of competence in reading, writing and oral/aural skills in the French language. To help gain proficiency, students can attend a weekly French coffee hour. A conversation course sometimes involves speaking to people in France live via teleconferencing.

Students can take upper-division French courses abroad, either through Kent's own year-long program with the University of Bordeaux or with any accredited study abroad program offered by another university. Such programs may be for one semester, one academic year, or one summer. They most benefit students who have already acquired a strong command of the language here before leaving, however.

Proficiency, in ACTFL terms, is understood to describe a range of qualities rather than an absolute norm and will vary according to task type, language function, topic, skill (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and so forth.

The Bachelor of Applied Horticulture degree provides students with the academic background and learning environment to further their education beyond an associate degree. The program aids students in the development of managerial expertise in areas of landscape design, turfgrass management and urban forestry, as well as landscape design, golf courses, sports turf management, arboriculture, environmental sustainability, plant propagation and greenhouse and nursery operations.

The Master of Liberal Studies degree provides students with a unique opportunity to study at the graduate level in fields that are of interest and use to them. Under the guidance of the program's director, students select courses from across disciplines in the university to form their own individualized and integrated program of study.

The Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education prepares critically reflective teachers with advanced knowledge in pre-school through primary multi-disciplinary curriculum. Students are prepared to be democratically accountable leaders, co-decision makers, pedagogical experts and committed professionals in various early childhood realms. The program emphasizes commitment to equitable and caring learning communities.

Ohio endorsements for pre-school and literacy endorsement or generalist (grades four and five) may be embedded in the program. In addition, students have the opportunity to receive an International Baccalaureate (IB) recognition award in the M.Ed. degree.

The Early Childhood Education major includes the following optional concentration:

• The Early Childhood Leadership: Advocacy, Curriculum and Policy concentration commonly appeals to teachers who desire to further their own early childhood programs, become master teachers and/or enhance their own leadership on behalf of young children and professionals who work with them. Students delve into issues and trends in the field, reconceptualize practice, understand and deconstruct/reconstruct policy understandings and complete their own independent research as an inquiry exit project or thesis.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics is a flexible program, grounded in the liberal arts and suited for students' individual interests and needs. The program combines well with a second major and/or minors.
