Environmental Design students at Montana State learn how to design the spaces and structures where people live, work and play. Coursework focuses on scientific knowledge, technical expertise and high-level architectural design thinking both inside the studio and in the community at large. The Environmental Design program is specifically designed to prepare all graduates for acceptance into a Master of Architecture program, which licenses that candidate to work as a professional in the field.

Students within the graduate Science and Natural History Filmmaking program at Montana State are given the tools and opportunities to tell the story of science through the dynamic medium of cinematography and filmmaking. After graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree, students in the program have had their work broadcast on many major channels and programs such as and won some of the industry’s top awards, from EMMYS to Fulbright Scholarships.

Students within the Photography option at Montana State focus on fine art and commercial approaches to the medium. As students master both analog and digital photography techniques in the studio, they also explore photography as a medium of expression under the close guidance of award-winning faculty mentors with a breadth of experience in the gallery and publication worlds. Coursework ranges from traditional silver-based darkroom techniques to alternative analog processes, as well as an emphasis on digital photographic processes.

In the Electrical Engineering department at Montana State, graduate students are granted access to innovative research labs and centers that allow candidates to explore cutting-edge issues in the field. Associated research entities include the Spectrum Lab, the Montana Nanotechnology Facility (MONT) and the Optical Technology Center (OpTeC), among others. Students in the Child Development program at Montana State are actively engaged in a variety of settings that include children, their families and other professionals in the field.  Course work and field experience provide students with multiple opportunities for applied understanding of children's growth and development, building family and community relationships, conducting observations and assessments, understanding developmentally appropriate practices and promoting the well-being of young children and their families.

In the Business – Finance program at Montana State, students gain the skills necessary to pursue a variety of careers in business, insurance, investment, corporate finance or real estate.

Students within the Geography program at Montana State are introduced to a series of core geography courses that explore world regional, physical and human geography concepts. After gaining a core understanding of spatial relationships, global distributions of physical and cultural phenomena and the factors contributing to the evolution of the Earth’s varied landscapes, students then have the opportunity to declare an emphasis in physical or human geography depending on potential careers ranging from environmental management to city planning.
