Kinesiology students at Montana State not only learn about the psychological and historical influence of human movement, but also how those perspectives then affect the physiological aspects of human performance and recovery. Studying both the theoretical and practical aspects of human performance helps prepare students for a variety of professions in physical activity and sport. Not only do graduates enter into careers within corporate and commercial fitness and wellness programs, but are also prepared for professional certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

At Montana State, students in the Snow Science track have one of the best laboratories in the nation in which to study: the Rocky Mountains. Alongside some of the most preeminent scientists in the field, students gain a foundational understanding of the distribution, mechanics and composition of snow before further defining their study before graduation. Snow scientists find careers in snow safety and consulting in land use planning, transportation and avalanche protection, as well as post-graduate study to further prepare for positions in the field.

Students in the Psychology department at Montana State work in a collaborative environment for innovative and scientific discovery in psychological science, as well as for the attainment of psychological literacy. Emphasis is placed on applying and understanding knowledge that concerns the behavioral and cognitive processes of humans and other animals, learning of various research methods used to study psychological phenomena and insight into the strengths and limitations of each.

Students in the Physics program at Montana State work closely with faculty on cutting-edge research projects that range from subjects as varied as astrophysics, biophysics, optics and space science. The Professional option in the Physics program is specifically designed to prepare motivated students for graduate study with a sound background in the fundamentals of physics and mathematics, as well as hands-on research opportunities within state-of-the-art facilities. Students within the Global & Multicultural Studies program at Montana State combine the traditional foundation of a broad-based liberal arts education with in-depth study of international and American cultural, ethnic and gender issues that span a wide range of disciplines. As part of the Liberal Studies department, Global & Multicultural Studies students take a series of integrative seminars designed to provide a sense of academic community and improve their critical thinking and communication skills, all while obtaining a better understanding of the factual knowledge and theoretical foundations of the subjects they’re studying.

Students in the Animal Science option at Montana State investigate the basic biological sciences of major livestock and rangeland in depth, as well as animal breeding, reproductive physiology, nutrition and livestock production. The option is designed for highly motivated students who have a strong interest in graduate training or professional school; graduates have gone onto veterinary school, medical school and graduate studies in the field.

Candidates in the Microbiology and Immunology program at Montana State engage in state-of-the-art research within one of the premier infectious disease research programs in the Northwest. Studying alongside leaders in the field, candidates are able to explore research within the environmental sciences or biomedical sciences and are encouraged to develop interdisciplinary ties in their research with additional departments and programs.

In the Rangeland Ecology & Management program at Montana State, students are given a background in ecological principles as preparation for managing rangelands in the western United States. Along with coursework in resource inventory, watersheds, rangeland restoration and vegetation ecology, Rangeland Ecology & Management students are able to select courses which focus on either production agriculture or other natural resource areas.
