The Visual Arts department at Roger Williams University prepares students for future careers in the arts with an interdisciplinary spirit and a global perspective. The Visual Arts faculty consists of active artists who share their experience with students through lively and challenging discussions and critiques. Media exploration is encouraged throughout the program and culminates in the creation of a cohesive body of work that reflects the individual student’s interests.

The major brings together students of diverse backgrounds who explore their creative interests through a range of media experiences. Emphasis of study is placed on historical as well as contemporary theories in the arts so that students may better place their own artwork within a larger context. Students in the program balance craft and conceptual agility and new and traditional media to engage in an increasingly interdisciplinary world. The interdisciplinary nature of the program allows students to explore multiple areas of interest that informs their creative work and gives students a broader skill-set than most arts programs. Our strength is the amount of attention given to each individual student-artist as they develop in the program preparing them for a future career in the arts.

Cultural Studies peers beneath the surface of the pop culture you consume, the music you listen to, the clothes you buy, the?? foods you eat, the places you visit, the speeches you hear, the things you read, and the art you see. We invite you to examine the impact of identity on American culture. Through lenses of race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, region, class, immigration, nationality, age, dis/ability, and religion, we study the ways that positionality affect the lived experiences of people. You will have the opportunity to craft your own interdisciplinary program of study that concentrates on aspects of American culture and society that will best prepare you for life after college.

Our Finance degree provides you with the analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills needed for careers across the financial services industry. At RWU, you’ll make actual investment decisions by managing real-money portfolios in our high-tech trading room environment. You will learn all the business and finance fundamentals required for employment at corporations, banks, investment firms, insurance companies and government agencies.

Our unique Anthropology + Sociology program combines the ideas and methods of these two social sciences into an integrated study of social change, diversity and cultural awareness, both locally and globally. You’ll build strong hands-on research skills to prepare you for a career in community and social service or an advanced degree in law, education, social work or public policy.

At RWU, the Accounting program is all about the practical knowledge you need to become a professional accountant. Students take an in-depth look at contemporary accounting systems used to analyze, interpret and communicate financial information to clients and stakeholders. Combined with real-world internship experience, you’ll be prepared to pursue a professional accounting certificate (such as the CPA) after graduation.

Applied Mathematics at RWU moves beyond theory, using math and statistics to solve practical real-world problems in fields like chemistry, environmental science and scientific computing. With small class sizes and opportunities to co-author publications with faculty, our Applied Mathematics program will set you up for a successful career in business, engineering, health care, government and more.

The Applied Mathematics major prepares students for a variety of career opportunities. Just  few examples are that many graduates find employment in the banking and investment sector, while others work for consulting, insurance, pharmaceutical, software and service companies; some of our students also go on to graduate or law school.

This course of study expands the student’s knowledge of the environment and how best to live in it, particularly from a chemical point of view. Studies dealing with actual environmental problems in modern society provide students with the logical scientific framework and develop the intellectual power necessary for finding possible solutions and deciding upon the more desirable ones. Emphasis is on laboratory and field studies designed to develop the skills and techniques necessary for analyzing environmental problems.

Aquarium and Aquaculture Science are rapidly growing areas within the field of marine biology. There is need for people trained in raising and caring for aquatic animals and the RWU AQS program, one of the first in the nation, effectively fills that void.

Aquaculture of marine and fresh water fish and invertebrates, already important as a food supply, is projected to increase in the future becoming one of the main sources of food for the world.  Aquarium science is a multi-billion dollar, world-wide business that encompasses trade and display of ornamental animals. Diseases of aquatic animals is a limitation in maintaining animals in both aquariums and aquaculture. The AQS degree offers both didactic and experiential, hands-on learning and will prepare the student for entry into this diverse and growing field.

Engineering at RWU is unique in its structure: a broad, liberal arts-infused foundation of math, science and engineering layered with an in-depth specialization in civil, computer, electrical or mechanical engineering or a customized study. Through this accredited program, you’ll develop the creativity and flexibility to solve practical problems that benefit humanity in our complex and rapidly changing world.

The Mechanical Engineering Specialization is only for students majoring in Engineering, B.S. Students specializing in Mechanical Engineering must complete all of the requirements for the Engineering, B.S. degree.

At RWU, Web Development majors don’t just design, develop and deploy state-of-the-art websites. They work on multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems for real-world clients. In the Web Development Center, you'll meet your first three clients in your sophomore year. As you begin to work with real clients, you'll quickly discover that web development isn't just about technology. On the Web, "content is king." So we encourage you to reinforce your web development education by picking up a second major or a couple of minors in fields like Marketing, Graphic Design, User Experience (UX), Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, Writing, Visual Arts, Cybersecurity and Business. In four short years, you'll graduate ready to meet the growing demand for web developers.
