If you want to spend your life immersed in the world of history, art, and culture, major in Art History within the Fine Arts Department. In AUM’s interdisciplinary Art History program, you’ll be introduced to the history of Western Civilization through an examination of images, artifacts, buildings, and works of art. Our program offers courses on art from the Ancient world to the Contemporary and encourages students to consider works of art and architecture as dynamic objects that reflect the cultural and social history of the time in which they were made. You’ll also be trained in highly desirable, transferable skills prized by employers, such as visual literacy, critical thinking, primary research, and effective written and oral communication skills.

To meet the needs of today’s organizations — and ensure that its business school students graduate with a set of skills that will set them apart in the marketplace — the College of Business designed its Entrepreneurship program to challenge students in a new way and inspire creative thinking. Our faculty – many of them successful practitioners in their field – deliver hands-on instruction in small-class environments.

The BSBA in Entrepreneurships prepare graduates to:

• Develop an effective, innovative business plan
• Identify and acquire the resources needed for the creation and implementation of a new venture, including financial, human, and managerial resources
• Understand risk and its effect on new ventures and analyze financial data to support business decisions and assessment of business strategies
• Identify, analyze, and understand potential market behaviors that would enhance value creation and profitability
• Lead the entrepreneurial process, from idea generation to the commercialization and implementation of the new business venture

At the most basic level of ability, managers must understand the fields of finance, accounting, marketing, strategy, IT, economics, operations, and human resource management. In later stages of a manager’s development into the executive ranks, he or she needs to understand how organizational processes interrelate and occur within a context. Executives must be able to make sense of societal changes, political drivers, social values, global interaction, and technological change.

Every organization needs educated, skilled leaders who can build effective teams and shepherd projects to completion. AUM’s Management concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree is a solid foundation for a life-long career in business. You’ll learn about organizational behavior and develop the interpersonal and decision-making skills that will allow you to flourish in a variety of business environments. With your degree, you’ll be prepared to work for businesses of all sizes, from small local firms to large multinational organizations. Internships will give you vital real-world experience.

A teacher’s influence can last a lifetime. Positively shape the lives of young people with a career in the classroom. Students in grades 6 through 12 need committed educators dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them master the secondary school curriculum. You’ll get a dual degree: one in your content area of expertise — English, math, history/social science, or science— and one in Secondary Education. An internship will give you practical experience in the classroom.

Career advancement in an increasingly diverse global society requires the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people from different cultures, ethnicities, nationalities, and social backgrounds. A sociology degree serves as an excellent springboard for a variety of careers in diverse fields in business, industry, and organizations. Sociologists study social life, social change, diverse communities and their interactions, and they use scientific methods to find empirical answers to complex social questions. Students studying English at AUM benefit from a varied and supportive environment that includes small classes and intensive, personal instruction from experienced professors who hold terminal degrees and have published significant research in their specialties.

Undergraduate English majors choose courses ranging from medieval and Renaissance literature to modern and postmodern literature, including courses on fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction. Majors may also take courses in rhetoric and composition, language and linguistics, literary criticism, and creative writing. A cornerstone course, English as a Field of Study, introduces students to career possibilities and to the English faculty.

The importance of marketing is amplified by the fact that marketing activities consti­tute one-half of the total cost of an average product and that a marketing orientation is linked with the purpose of any business or organization; that is, serving customer needs. The program of study in marketing provides the knowledge students need to successfully create customer value in a dynamic environment. Creating customer value requires a balance between thinking logically and creatively, and the marketing special­ization challenges students to do both. Students also have opportunities to develop interpersonal and communication capabilities, and valuable skills in demand by local, national and international employers.
