You can do the most important job on the planet — teaching a child to read and to wonder and to see the world. What greater satisfaction could there be than watching children’s minds and imaginations flower as you teach them reading, writing, science, math, and social studies?

In AUM’s Childhood Education program, you’ll get certified in either Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education or both, qualifying you to teach children from birth through grade 6. You’ll go from our classroom to your own classroom with a practicum under expert supervision in AUM’s own Early Learning Center, an internship under a local expert teacher, and hundreds of hours of supervised field experiences in local schools to practice what you’re learning in your teaching methods courses.

The Public Health and Microbiology concentration includes studies in:

• Microbial pathogenesis
• Principles of public health
• Epidemiology
• Molecular genetics
• Virology
• Environmental and industrial microbial processes.

This concentration prepares students for technical work or graduate school in microbial disease systems using polymerase chain reaction, other molecular diagnostic tools, as well as environmental and industrial applications of microbial systems.

To meet the needs of today’s organizations — and ensure that its business school students graduate with a set of skills that will set them apart in the marketplace — the College of Business designed its Entrepreneurship program to challenge students in a new way and inspire creative thinking. Our faculty – many of them successful practitioners in their field – deliver hands-on instruction in small-class environments.

The BSBA in Entrepreneurships prepare graduates to:

• Develop an effective, innovative business plan
• Identify and acquire the resources needed for the creation and implementation of a new venture, including financial, human, and managerial resources
• Understand risk and its effect on new ventures and analyze financial data to support business decisions and assessment of business strategies
• Identify, analyze, and understand potential market behaviors that would enhance value creation and profitability
• Lead the entrepreneurial process, from idea generation to the commercialization and implementation of the new business venture

The Visual Art program teaches students the traditional principles, methods, techniques and historical background of art necessary for building specialized roles in the art field. The Visual Art concentration emphasizes personal expression and specialization for preparation to become a practicing artist or candidate for graduate programs.

The program is affiliated with the National Society for Human Resources Management and has a curriculum that presents state-of-the-art practices in human resources. Students are provided with the knowledge and skills needed to be competitive in this constantly changing field.

The six-course HRM core requires work in personnel management, selection, labor relations, compensation, training, and labor law. Beyond the six-required HRM courses, students can tailor their program with the choice of two HRSM elective courses.

At AUM, you’ll develop practical skills in leadership, conflict resolution, problem-solving, testing and assessment and people management. You’ll learn about compensation, health and safety, and labor law as you also become skilled at hiring the right people and keeping your hires happy and productive. Hands-on internships will give you experience that will position you for full-time employment after graduation.

A teacher’s influence can last a lifetime. Positively shape the lives of young people with a career in the classroom. Students in grades 6 through 12 need committed educators dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them master the secondary school curriculum. You’ll get a dual degree: one in your content area of expertise — English, math, history/social science, or science— and one in Secondary Education. An internship will give you practical experience in the classroom.

A Secondary Education General Science degree prepares students to teach general science courses in the areas of chemistry, earth and space science, physics, and biology at the middle, junior, and senior high school levels (grades 6-12).

The specialization in Information Systems, a STEM program, is designed to provide the student with the background to perform the functions necessary in business information processing and management. In addition, the student can acquire sufficient knowledge so that he or she will be able to assume supervisory responsibilities in an information systems environment and lead strategic initiatives using information technologies for competitive advantage.

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is a distinctive degree plan designed to serve students with unique needs or academic interests. The flexibility of the program makes it ideal for students returning to the university to complete a degree or those who have completed significant credit hours at another institution, military service school, or in another degree plan. It is also a perfect fit for students who want to create an individually-tailored course of studies.

Whether your interest lies in genetics, public health, or succeeding in medical, dental, or veterinary school, the concentrations in AUM’s Department of Biology and Environmental Science allow you to pursue your interests. AUM’s Biology degree offers concentrations in General Biology, Health Sciences, Molecular Biology, and Public Health and Microbiology. A degree in Biology can lead to a variety of jobs in research labs, government, or private business.
