Become familiar with a number of art techniques and the major achievements in the history of art. Gain an understanding of contemporary thinking about art and design, and learn to make valid assessments of quality in design projects and works of art. Studio artists are creative problem solvers who enjoy experimentation, are self-disciplined, and visually aware.

Digital Art: Combine your two loves into one discipline that will help you refine your skills in classes that provide a broad, integrated understanding of creative practice across 3-D modeling, animation, video, Web, interactive systems, photo-based media, and digital printmaking. Create a whole new world for others to embrace and live through your vision.

The Bachelor of Social Work program will prepare you to engage in a practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Graduates are qualified for entry-level positions in government, nonprofit, and for-profit social service agencies in fields such as schools, corrections, child welfare, hospitals, and the military to name a few. The LSU BSW program is currently in candidacy with the Council on Social Work Education. Once the program is fully accredited, students with a BSW may be eligible to enter a one-year Advanced Standing MSW program.

Industrial engineers are engineers with a business flair who enjoy working with people. They apply engineering design to create and improve systems that deliver products or services. They strive to improve the productivity of their organizations and respond to changing customer needs and wants quickly and constantly. For instance, an industrial engineer may be involved in designing a new production plant for a car manufacturer (a product) or in designing an effective emergency room for a hospital (a service). In designing these systems, an industrial engineer integrates equipment, materials, energy, information, and people together to meet business objectives while ensuring product/service quality and reliability, the safety and satisfaction of customers and employees, and the effective and productive use of resources.

The versatility of industrial engineers allows them to engage in activities that are useful to a variety of businesses, governments, and nonprofits. For example, industrial engineers engage in supply chain management to help businesses minimize inventory costs, conduct quality assurance activities to help businesses keep their customer bases satisfied, and work in the growing field of project management as industries across the economy seek to control costs and maximize efficiencies. With skills that can be applied to almost any industry, industrial engineers can work in almost any field and at any type of organization/company.

Electrical engineers are primarily concerned with the generation, control, transmission, and distribution of electric energy, signals, and information. This may be on a large scale, such as designing a more reliable power grid, or a small scale, such as developing components for a new medical device or cell phone. Graduates could design power systems in Baton Rouge, work on flight control systems in San Diego, help maintain an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, or work at a software company in Silicon Valley.

You will feel right at home as a geography major. Take advantage of the special emphases in Latin American and East Asian geography. Get heavily involved in hands-on research projects and the student-run Geography and Anthropology Society.

These can include the time and talent people have available; the land, buildings, equipment, and other tools on hand; and the knowledge of how to combine them to create useful products and services. Economics will provide you with analytical skills and a breadth of economic understanding that prepares you for a career in business or government or for further study in economics, law, or public policy.

Study ways to improve crops and discover new crossbreeds of plants, and learn the latest approaches to the cultivation, marketing, and processing of ornamental plants, fruits, and vegetables. Topics include soil science and conservation, ornamentals and grasses, urban landscape management, sustainable horticulture, and much more.

Soil Science: Learn how soils are used as a natural resource to support agronomic production and environmental quality.

Learn the math and theory behind modern-day computing, develop and hone your programming skills, and then use computers to solve problems in almost any industry. Computer science involves programming computing devices, creating information systems, engineering new products, visualizing and creating imagery, working with data infrastructure and networks, and protecting information through cybersecurity Concentrations include cloud computing and networking, computer science and a second discipline, cybersecurity, data science and analytics, and software engineering. Many graduates go on to become software engineers/developers, but other job titles include cybersecurity specialist, network designer, entrepreneur, web developer, and more.
