• Latin America: The concentration in Latin America focuses on the history, folklore, culture, and literature of Latin America and the Caribbean. The close proximity of this region to the United States and our long history of interactions with the area make it a very important area for U.S. foreign policy and for American commercial interests. The stark disparities of economic conditions and environmental endowments across the Americas draw attention to the need for sustainable development.

LSU has the only program in Louisiana that will prepare you for a career in international business. The international trade and finance degree is an economics degree with a concentration in international business. Want to work for an international company? Empirical Economic Analysis
Learn the skills you need to analyze business and economic data to solve real-world problems.

Mechanical engineers apply principles of engineering, mathematics, physics, and materials science for the analysis, design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance of equipment and machinery. They also work on all forms of energy production, exchange, and conversion for a wide variety of applications. As an LSU Mechanical Engineer, you will learn to emphasize physical realization of prototypes, develop skills for communicating tech­nical content effectively, and engage your professional community through industry-sponsored projects. Mechanical engineers are versatile and work in industries such as automotive, air and space, and petrochemical, to name a few. Careers include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) engineer; automotive designer; manufacturing engineer; reliability and maintenance engineer; production supervisor; and more.

This interdisciplinary area of study underlies many of the most cutting-edge breakthroughs in understanding life processes and is critical to modern medicine, so even as an undergraduate, you can participate in research that can have real-world implications.

Economics will provide you with analytical skills and a breadth of economic understanding that prepares you for a career in business or government or for further study in economics, law, or public policy.

Curricula emphasizes field instruction. Unique facilities available through this curriculum include the School of Renewable Natural Resources’ Lee Memorial Forest, an actively managed forest, which has accommodations and teaching facilities so that you can get hands-on experience in the field.

Conservation Biology: Help conserve rare, uncommon, threatened, or endangered species and learn about habitat manipulations and genetic approaches to enhancing these species.
