From companion animals to livestock, study all aspects of the animal industries, including production, processing, and nutrition, as well as care of companion animals and preparation for veterinary school. Civil engineers work on the design, construction, and maintenance of the infrastructure systems we use every day and/or in surveying and coastal subsidence projects. Sub-disciplines include: mechanics of materials (steel, concrete, timber, pavement etc.), structures (bridges, buildings, etc.), water resources (rivers, levees, etc.), transportation (traffic systems, highways, and roadways), geotechnical (soils, foundations, and coastal subsidence), and geodesy (surveying). Graduates may work for structural design firms or the petrochemical industry, but often work for government entities such as the Department of Transportation or U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

Petroleum engineers design and manage drilling and production operations around the world wherever oil and natural gas is found. This may take place in the Arctic, jungles, oceans, or even in shale formations here in the United States. Petroleum engineers thoroughly study geologic and engineering data in order to design drilling and production operations that maximize production rates and reservoir recovery. As a petroleum engineer, you might move to field, district, area, staff, and chief petroleum engineering positions. • Africa: The concentration in Africa focuses on the politics, history, folklore, and culture of Sub Saharan Africa. This region has close cultural ties with the United States, and supplies a number of important resources which are shipped through the Port of New Orleans including cocoa, coffee, and rubber. Dramatic economic conditions in some parts of Africa highlight the urgent need for sustainable economic development. 

Establish a solid foundation for your career by focusing on the drivers of marketing, including the trends that cause existing and new markets to develop. You will have the chance to enroll in innovative courses such as “Marketing on the Internet” and “Sports Marketing.” Additionally, the department participates in the International Business Seminars program, allowing students to travel to Europe and learn best business practices from several firms and companies.

This curriculum is diverse with opportunities to study forest management of hardwood and pine forests, wetlands, wildlife, conservation biology, fisheries, aquaculture, habitat management, or prepare for a career as a wildlife-oriented veterinarian. Curricula emphasizes field instruction. Unique facilities available through this curriculum include the School of Renewable Natural Resources’ Lee Memorial Forest, an actively managed forest, which has accommodations and teaching facilities so that you can get hands-on experience in the field.

Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Management: Learn how to manage habitats to promote wildlife. You may take one of two paths: one focuses on wetland wildlife habitat, while the other offers greater experience with forest management, including an eight-week forestry camp off campus at Lee Memorial Forest.

If you enjoy bringing life to a creative thought, you may find your niche in studio art. Choose a focus in two- or three-dimensional art, such as ceramics and sculpture, painting and drawing, photography, or printmaking. Become familiar with a number of art techniques and the major achievements in the history of art. Gain an understanding of contemporary thinking about art and design, and learn to make valid assessments of quality in design projects and works of art.
