Fisheries and Aquaculture: Learn to manage, conserve, and enhance populations of aquatic organisms in the wild or through the use of aquaculture. Commercial aspects of fisheries and aquaculture will also be explored.

In this major, you can study political topics ranging from healthcare reform to international diplomacy. Through this exploration, you will develop knowledge and analytical skills that can help you succeed in a career in public policy, city management, and law.

Forest Enterprise: Learn about the business aspects of forestry and wood products. Forestry is the largest agricultural sector in Louisiana, and forest products and enterprises contribute greatly to local, state, and national economies.

You will feel right at home as a geography major. Take advantage of the special emphases in Latin American and East Asian geography. Get heavily involved in hands-on research projects and the student-run Geography and Anthropology Society.

Through the study and performance of communication, you will learn how we form, maintain, and transform language, communication tools, and meaning.

Learn the math and theory behind modern-day computing, develop and hone your programming skills, and then use computers to solve problems in almost any industry. Computer science involves programming computing devices, creating information systems, engineering new products, visualizing and creating imagery, working with data infrastructure and networks, and protecting information through cybersecurity Concentrations include cloud computing and networking, computer science and a second discipline, cybersecurity, data science and analytics, and software engineering. Many graduates go on to become software engineers/developers, but other job titles include cybersecurity specialist, network designer, entrepreneur, web developer, and more.

Economics is the study of how people choose to use resources. These can include the time and talent people have available; the land, buildings, equipment, and other tools on hand; and the knowledge of how to combine them to create useful products and services. Economics will provide you with analytical skills and a breadth of economic understanding that prepares you for a career in business or government or for further study in economics, law, or public policy.

Empirical Economic Analysis: Learn how to define and analyze economic problems using algebraic and statistical methods, and to identify the benefits and costs of a global economy.

Study ways to improve crops and discover new crossbreeds of plants, and learn the latest approaches to the cultivation, marketing, and processing of ornamental plants, fruits, and vegetables. Topics include soil science and conservation, ornamentals and grasses, urban landscape management, sustainable horticulture, and much more.

Horticulture Science: Horticulture is the science and art of cultivation, propagation, marketing, and processing of ornamental plants, flowers, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Horticulture is unique among plant sciences because it also incorporates art and the principles of design. With opportunities such as internships, hands-on learning, and faculty-led research, you will gain valuable experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.

If you enjoy bringing life to a creative thought, you may find your niche in studio art. Choose a focus in two- or three-dimensional art, such as ceramics and sculpture, painting and drawing, photography, or printmaking. Become familiar with a number of art techniques and the major achievements in the history of art. Gain an understanding of contemporary thinking about art and design, and learn to make valid assessments of quality in design projects and works of art. Studio artists are creative problem solvers who enjoy experimentation, are self-disciplined, and visually aware.

Graphic Design: Wherever words and images are used to present information and attract attention, graphic design comes into play. Today’s designers are challenged to be masters of a complex cluster of aesthetic, conceptual, technological, social, strategic, and presentation skills. The graphic design curriculum will prepare you to meet these challenges by helping you develop your skills in typography, print and editorial design, information design, digital imaging and motion graphics, packaging, environmental design, identity design, and branding.

Finance is the study of how individuals, businesses, and organizations acquire and use money. In fact, finance students get hands-on experience with this through the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), or Tiger Fund, which gives them the opportunity to work through such areas of security research, valuation of risky assets, and portfolio management. Since it began in 2005, students have taken the initial $1 million provided by the LSU Foundation and grown it to more than $2.3 million.
