The MA in Middle School Education prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of children in middle school classrooms. This intensive, field-based program prepares candidates to work democratically with diverse children and families, including those with special needs and second language backgrounds. It leads to Illinois teaching credentials in the areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The Bachelor of Arts in Biology is an option for students who want an in-depth humanistic education in biology without completing all of the science and mathematics courses required for the BS in Biology. The biology BA allows students the flexibility to fashion a customized undergraduate experience; for example, completing a double-major or multiple minors.

Mathematics is a beautiful and interesting subject that will help you gain analytical and problem-solving skills. Mathematicians are problem solvers that combine a deep knowledge of statistics, numbers, functions, shapes, structures and their interconnections to solve real world problems. Mathematics opens the doors to many promising career paths. A study by PayScale shows that the top 15 highest-earning college degrees have a common element: mathematics. Popular mathematics careers include teaching, data analyst, quantitative analyst, computer science, data science, operations research, biomathematics, cryptography, and finance.

The BFA Musical Theatre program at CCPA blends intensive musical training including music theory, piano skills, and weekly voice lessons with a high level of acting coursework in Linklater technique, scene study, and period styles. Students also take a full course load of dance classes. The BFA in Musical Theatre is a pre-professional degree program designed to develop a strong foundation in the skills required for a career as a musical theatre performer, focusing particularly on vocal performance and acting technique. The program blends intensive musical training including music theory, piano skills and weekly voice lessons with a high level of acting coursework in Linklater technique, scene study and period styles. Students also take a full course load of dance classes, receiving training in ballet, jazz, modern, tap and musical theatre styles. Students are eligible for casting in musical productions and plays on the mainstage as well as our blackbox productions.

Prepare for your life as a writer in Chicago’s thriving literary community. MFA students complete a book-length manuscript of publishable quality and receive intensive faculty mentorship and support throughout the process. Students develop a specialty and sub-specialty in fiction and nonfiction (or vice versa) and work in any prose tradition, including the novel and long-form nonfiction. While all our students are distinguished by the quality of their writing and their dedication to craft, some of them arrive on campus knowing exactly what they plan to work on, while others take advantage of the room to explore. Our curriculum allows students to thrive in either approach.

Of the dozens of majors offered at Roosevelt University, philosophy is perhaps the one most closely aligned with the university’s mission to educate socially conscious citizens. Through deep and precise reading in philosophical texts, students not only interrogate essential human questions, they learn thinking, writing and speaking skills that they may use in service of social justice. This program has been designed to offer students the opportunity to major in both traditional and emerging financial fields. Course offerings give students a broad exposure to contemporary issues in the financial world. Courses in finance have been designed to meet the following objectives:

• Teach the concepts and skills necessary to provide funds for a business and to control, plan and evaluate the flow of funds through the enterprise
• Provide advanced education in business finance to those seeking employment in corporate finance, banking, securities exchanges and personal financial planning

Marketing Communications is the term for the broad field that includes social and digital marketing, advertising, public relations, promotional marketing, and numerous other forms of persuasive communications activities. Students majoring in the Digital Marketing, Advertising, and Public Relations degree are prepared for entry-level work in any area of this broad field. Through course work and a required professional internship in the field, students are prepared for entry-level work in any area of this broad field, including agencies, organizations and companies in advertising, public relations and marketing.

The Master’s in College Counseling and Student Affairs program prepares graduate students seeking to enter the workforce as college counselors and employees in student affairs in offices in higher education. The intensive, field-based MA in college counseling and student affairs curriculum includes particular emphasis on preparing students for positions that serve university and community college students on urban campuses with diverse student populations.
