The B.F.A. in dance focuses on technical training and preparation for a career in professional performance.

The Department requires an audition for entry into the Dance B.F.A. program and to qualify for departmental scholarships. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the live auditions.

The news and information track prepares students to adapt to an ever-changing media landscape.

Students develop core skills in writing, editing, storytelling, multimedia production, video, design and web, and then move deeper into a specialty area. For instance, students who want to become  web or print reporters will learn to tell stories with words, yes, but also with video, photo, audio, design and interactive media. Students who want to pursue TV news will learn not only broadcast production but gain skills in design, online storytelling, and writing.

The idea is to help students gain both depth and breadth to propel them into careers that will change many times over the coming decades.

Students who graduate from the news and information track often go on to jobs at websites, magazines, TV stations, sports organizations, startups and nonprofits. Career choices are limited only by the students' imaginations, though, as a journalism degree provides skills in research, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication and creativity that organizations of all types need.  

The European Studies Program provides a vibrant community for research, teaching, and related activities that explore historical and contemporary European cultures, societies, states, economies, natural resources, and environments. Seeking to serve students, faculty, and staff at the University of Kansas as well as the broader local, regional, national, and international communities, the European Studies Program generates grant activity and develops research, curricular, and outreach projects that support the mission of the University.

Electrical engineers design, test and manufacture electrical and electronic systems and devices. They collaborate on the development of hybrid vehicles, wireless communications, flight control systems, radar systems and numerous other innovations. Electrical engineers can specialize in power transmission, motor control and other facets of large electrical systems or in microprocessors and integrated circuits within small-scale electronic systems. Armed with technical knowledge and skills, electrical engineers have career opportunities in a variety of industries and research organizations.

Our graduates are prepared with classroom, clinical and laboratory experiences to form their broad understanding of professional nursing. KU grads are ready to work in hospitals, community health agencies, industrial or long-term care facilities, as geriatric nurses, ICU nurses, traveling nurses or flight nurses.

Nursing Licensure

The BSN program prepares students for RN licensure. The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is the examination for nursing practice in the United States, Canada, and Australia. The exam does not vary across states. Graduates apply for licensure and complete the NCLEX through the Board of Nursing in the State where they plan to practice. Some states belong to the Nurse Licensure Compact which allows graduates to apply for multi-state licensure. The bachelor's degree in elementary teacher education at the University of Kansas prepares individuals to teach children in kindergarten through sixth grade. The teacher education program combines general education courses and professional education coursework with multiple field experiences at the elementary level in diverse communities. The KU School of Education and Human Sciences is accredited under the NCATE standards through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Accreditation System.

The B.A. in dance offers comprehensive technical training built on a solid liberal arts foundation, allowing our students to double-major or pursue graduate study in a wide number of fields.

The Department does NOT require an audition for entry into the Dance B.A. program. Incoming or transfer students may declare a dance major when they apply or enroll.  At the end of the sophomore year, students will undergo a Sophomore Review (PDF), an evaluation of their academic progress and artistic growth within the program. If a student is in good standing at the end of their sophomore year, they may continue in the B.A. program. If a student transfers into our program after the sophomore year, he or she will be evaluated at the end of the first year of attendance.

Our mission is to provide our students with a high quality education, to generate and apply knowledge, and to serve both society and the engineering profession. The program educational objectives, in support of our mission, are that our graduates will be:

• Technically skilled in the application of the principles of mechanical engineering, and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and in teams;
• Successful in their chosen career paths, demonstrating the attitudes, abilities, and personal leadership to effectively adapt to our changing global society while maintaining and promoting the highest engineering, professional, and ethical standards; and
• Actively engaged in continuous learning and professional growth throughout their careers while productively contributing to their organizations and communities.

The Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology provides students with a broad understanding of biological systems at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels. The MCDB degree includes study of genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, cancer biology, and neurobiology. Students have the option of elective courses in these areas for an advanced, in-depth learning experience.

The mission of the Department of Psychology at the University of Kansas is to further the understanding of the mind, the brain, and human behavior through the classes we teach, the new discoveries we make in our research, and in our service to the people of Kansas and the world. At the undergraduate and graduate levels our students acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to become leaders in the psychological sciences and in other professions.

Psychology is the scientific study of how and why people think, feel, and behave as they do.  Our scientific approach to understanding human behavior equips our students with a solid foundation of analytical, research and clinical skills for careers in many fields with a human service emphasis.

Our department offers a unique academic experience in which you will obtain a vast array of transferable skills that prepare you for a broad scope of professions. Students will be trained in research methodology, critical analysis, data and statistic collections and assessments, ICT skills, and project management. The undergraduate curriculum has been designed as part of a general education for students preparing for careers in various fields of psychology, for students that seek general professional positions, as well as for students anticipating graduate work.
