In our MIS program, you will gain the skills to create desktop and mobile applications, web pages, and databases with state-of-the-art technology. Our alumni work for industry-leading companies such as FedEx, Microsoft, and Yahoo!

What Will You Learn?

Our students will learn to write the code and master the software that businesses need to succeed. You will delve into Visual Basic and C# using Visual Studio, in addition to UML, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server.

Geological engineering students at the University of Mississippi combine a knowledge of earth processes with engineering skills to solve problems. Their work intersects with the fields of civil engineering, mining and energy, natural hazards, pollution, waste disposal, groundwater, and more.

Geological engineers consider the engineering properties of natural soils and rock for building and protecting foundations, dams, levees and tunnels. They also work to reverse the environmental impacts of human activities in fields such as groundwater remediation and mine reclamation.

With a geological engineering degree, you can find a job in energy, mining, environmental consulting, government research and regulation. And, you’ll likely find yourself spending part of your workday outdoors – in swamps, mountains, forests, desert plains and out at sea.

The Ole Miss Hospitality Management program prepares students to handle a wide array of needs across the hospitality industry. Valuable hands-on experiences enables students to receive the academic foundation and practical experience needed to be successful after graduation.

Students who complete the program in hospitality management choose among many of the job settings in the growing hospitality industry, such as restaurants and food-service operations, hotels and other lodging facilities, event companies, resorts, casinos, entertainment centers, convention centers, travel firms, and visitor bureaus.

Linguistics majors at the University of Mississippi learn the layers of intertwined systems of language (sound, meaning, organization and context) and study phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. They explore the relationship between language and social factors such as region, ethnicity, gender, and identity; and how language is acquired and changes over time.

The study of linguistics, often referred to as the "science of language," provides students with an understanding of the sound systems, words, and sentence structures of language, both individually and comparatively.

The B.A. in theatre arts is a comprehensive, flexible degree that allows students to study various aspects of theatre such as performance ( acting, musical theatre, dance), theatrical production (stage management, directing), design (scenic, costumes, lighting, sound), film production, dramaturgy, theatre history, and dramatic literature. The B.A. degree is designed for students who want to teach, to pursue graduate education, to work in the entertainment industry, or to complement a double major or dual degree program.

To study English is to explore the power of texts in expressing human cultures and imaginations and to hone foundational skills in argumentation and analysis through writing and research.

English majors at the University of Mississippi encounter novels, poems, stories, epics, plays, films, autobiographies and more from the year 449 CE to today. Students will navigate the stimulating and diverse world of English-language literatures. They may also select an emphasis in creative writing where they develop their own voice. Students complete a literary interpretation course, courses across five literature periods or groups, and a capstone course with a significant research and writing component.

The program of study in English not only enriches students' appreciation of literature and engages them in cultural debate but helps develop crucial skills in analytical thinking and clear, persuasive expression both in speech and in writing. The Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreation Administration degree program prepares students for leadership, direct service, and even supervisory roles in sport franchises, sport tourism, community recreation agencies, or college recreation departments.

The B.A.S.R.A. degree program is designed to develop skills preparatory to leadership and supervisory roles in a variety of sport and leisure service careers, including municipal, outdoor, therapeutic, military, church, youth, commercial/tourism, and industrial agencies and organizations.

The Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreation Administration program is accredited through the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions.

By enrolling in the anthropology program at the University of Mississippi, you'll study society and culture of the past and present. The four-field discipline includes archaeology, bioanthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.

Anthropology is the comparative study of human culture. The department offers a broad range of courses dealing with human evolution, the culture of peoples from around the world and through time, biological and cultural human adaptation, and archaeology.

Study the nature and development of our communication abilities and learn about disorders involving impairments in hearing, speech, voice, resonance, fluency, swallowing, and language processes

Students are introduced to anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms; phonology; human development; disorders in fluency, voice, articulation, expressive and receptive language and learning and the programs and methods used to treat these disorders.

Forensic chemistry students at the University of Mississippi focus on analytical chemistry and biochemistry/molecular biology, with a capstone internship experience and participation in research.

The B.S. program in forensic chemistry is intended for students who seek a career in a local, state, or federal crime laboratory. This program shares many elements in common with the department's B.A. program in biochemistry and therefore provides academic preparation for students who are interested in a career in medicine, dentistry, or other health-related professions.
