The B.S. in chemistry provides a rigorous foundation in the principal areas of basic chemistry. This program is designed for students who intend to pursue advanced studies leading to the M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in the chemical or biochemical sciences, or who wish to obtain employment as entry-level professional chemists in industrial or government laboratories.

The M.S. in engineering science is offered in a number of emphasis areas: aeroacoustics, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computational hydroscience, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, electromagnetics, environmental engineering, geology, geological engineering, hydrology, mechanical engineering, material science and engineering, and telecommunications.

An M.S. in engineering science with emphasis in telecommunications prepares a student with advanced technical knowledge and communication skills for pursuing a career in industry, engineering research and development, public service, or for doctoral work.

Linguistics majors at the University of Mississippi learn the layers of intertwined systems of language (sound, meaning, organization and context) and study phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. They explore the relationship between language and social factors such as region, ethnicity, gender, and identity; and how language is acquired and changes over time.

The study of linguistics, often referred to as the "science of language," provides students with an understanding of the sound systems, words, and sentence structures of language, both individually and comparatively.

The M.A. in philosophy prepares a student to go on to a Ph.D. program, a professional school, theology graduate work, or simply offers an opportunity to deepen understanding of the issues, methods, and history of philosophy.

The Risk Management and Insurance major prepares students for exciting careers in an industry that has a high demand for talent. Students at Ole Miss gain marketable skills regarding the assessment and management of risk.

What will you learn?
Risk impacts individuals, businesses, and governments across the entire world. Without risk there is no reward. The RMI curriculum focuses on commercial risk management and culminates in a capstone course where you will perform a comprehensive risk management audit of a company, write a detailed report of risk control and transfer recommendations, and present your solutions to a panel of experts. You will also find out where you fit best in the industry by working as an intern - most students earn 6 hours of academic credit for working paid summer internships. Student internships include duties ranging from designing social media strategies for insurance brokers to underwriting insurance policies.

The Bachelor of Social Work at Ole Miss prepares students to integrate the knowledge, values and skills of the social work profession for competent practice in settings with individuals, families, groups, organizations, institutions and communities.

The B.S.W. degree prepares students to work as generalist social workers in a variety of settings with individuals, families, groups, communities, or organizations.

Using mathematical and statistical models, economists consider how resources such as labor, land, money, and technology are distributed.  Economics majors gain a broad understanding of the field of economics as well as skills in statistics, mathematics, organization, research methodology, and verbal and written communication. The Bachelor of Science in economics is designed for students desiring a more technical and mathematical approach to economics in preparation for a Ph.D. in economics.

The M.S. in sport and recreation administration provides advanced education and vocational opportunities to develop leisure service delivery skills and evaluation or research competencies for students committed to careers in leisure, sport, recreation, health, tourism, and/or research.

The Master of Taxation & Data Analytics program offers specialization in both taxation and data analytics. Students in this program are given many opportunities to gain hands-on experience in data analytics and the latest relevant technologies. The program includes five accountancy and taxation courses, three data analytics courses, one taxation elective, and one accountancy elective.
