The B.A. in Southern studies involves the interdisciplinary study of the American South. The program brings together faculty members from the humanities and social sciences to explore the importance of region as a context of human experience. Through a variety of disciplines, including African American studies, anthropology, art, history, literature, music, politics, religion, and sociology, Southern studies seeks to investigate the challenges and contributions of the region, in order to situate the South in the fabric of American life. The undergraduate program teaches students both knowledge about the people, past and present, of the American South and a variety of techniques about studying those people.

Students who pursue the major in African American studies will get a broad-based understanding of research in a variety of academic disciplines, with a particular focus on African and African American topics. Students will be provided with historical and contemporary data that will enable them to develop a comprehensive understanding of the life experiences of African Americans.

The B.A. in theatre arts is a comprehensive, flexible degree that allows students to study various aspects of theatre such as performance ( acting, musical theatre, dance), theatrical production (stage management, directing), design (scenic, costumes, lighting, sound), film production, dramaturgy, theatre history, and dramatic literature. The B.A. degree is designed for students who want to teach, to pursue graduate education, to work in the entertainment industry, or to complement a double major or dual degree program.

Linguistics majors at the University of Mississippi learn the layers of intertwined systems of language (sound, meaning, organization and context) and study phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. They explore the relationship between language and social factors such as region, ethnicity, gender, and identity; and how language is acquired and changes over time.

You’ll receive instruction in principles, finance, appraisal, law, land use controls, and investment analysis. You’ll learn about brokerage, lending, corporate positions, and government agencies. The General Business curriculum includes the core business subjects, an internship or study abroad opportunity, and a minor from another discipline outside the business school. The M.A. degree provides students with an intensive study of the different fields, theories, and research methods in contemporary political science. The degree prepares students for doctoral study in political science, and for careers in education, government, or policy analysis. Two options are offered: One, which requires a written thesis, is for students primarily interested in political science research; the other, which replaces the thesis with a written comprehensive examination, is for students who are more concerned with the practical application of their political science expertise.

The Master of Music is an advanced professional degree designed to develop a particular area in music to a high level of specialization. The university offers the M.M. with the following emphases:

• Performance in woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instruments, piano, and voice;

Emphasis - Music Education
The M.M. degree with an emphasis in music education is designed to give the student advanced training in music and K-12 music education and/or prepares him/her for study at the doctoral level.

The Master of Taxation program offers graduate-level accounting education for students who plan to pursue careers in taxation. Students take five required accountancy and taxation courses, two taxation electives, two accountancy electives, and one non-accountancy elective to complete this program. While there are no required data analytics courses, students will gain knowledge of data analytics in some required coursework.
