By enrolling in the anthropology program at the University of Mississippi, you'll study society and culture of the past and present. The four-field discipline includes archaeology, bioanthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.

Anthropology is the comparative study of human culture. The department offers a broad range of courses dealing with human evolution, the culture of peoples from around the world and through time, biological and cultural human adaptation, and archaeology.

What will you learn?
You’ll receive instruction in principles, finance, appraisal, law, land use controls, and investment analysis. You’ll learn about brokerage, lending, corporate positions, and government agencies. On graduation, you will be prepared for examinations for state real estate broker and salesperson licenses.

The M.S. degree in chemistry is designed for students who intend to seek employment as a professional chemist or who plan to pursue the D.A. degree in chemistry at UM. This program requires the submission of a thesis based on original laboratory or theoretical research. The M.S. degree is not a prerequisite for the Ph.D. degree.

Political science is the study of political institutions and political behavior at the local, state, national, and international levels. Students of political science will develop critical thinking, writing, and oral communication skills essential to effective citizenship, as well as many careers.

Political science majors at the University of Mississippi conduct policy analysis and study political actors and organizations within the context of American government and politics, comparative government and politics, and international relations. The department offers optional emphases in Campaigns & Elections, International Conflict & Cooperation, Politics of Developing Countries, or Law & Courts.

The Master of Music is an advanced professional degree designed to develop a particular area in music to a high level of specialization. The university offers the M.M. with the following emphases:

Emphasis - Musicology
The M.M. degree with an emphasis in musicology is an advanced professional degree designed to give the student a broad research background while also providing a 24-credit specialization. A reading knowledge of one foreign language and a thesis are required.

A M.S. in engineering science with emphasis in geology prepares a student with advanced technical knowledge and communication skills for pursuing a career in industry, research and development, public service, or for doctoral work.
