The B.A. in art is a broad liberal arts degree for students who want a general education with a strong emphasis on art and a minor in another discipline. Students who major in art are creative thinkers who visualize the world around them to create contemporary and conceptual works of art.

The Department of Modern Languages offers the M.A. in modern languages with emphases in French, German, linguistics, Spanish, and teaching English as a second language (TESOL).

Emphasis - Linguistics
tudents who specialize in linguistics will be exposed to a broad range of linguistic inquiry and will then be encouraged to develop a specific research agenda. With its strong emphasis on research and academic writing, this degree prepares students for doctoral study in general, theoretical, or applied linguistics.

The Master of Taxation & Data Analytics program offers specialization in both taxation and data analytics. Students in this program are given many opportunities to gain hands-on experience in data analytics and the latest relevant technologies. The program includes five accountancy and taxation courses, three data analytics courses, one taxation elective, and one accountancy elective.

The Bachelor of Music curriculum prepares students to become professional musicians or vocalists, to teach music at the K-12 levels, or for graduate or professional school. Students select a concentration in instrumental, keyboard, or vocal training.

The B.M. in music is offered for students seeking a university education that includes preparation for careers in music teaching or performance. The B.M. degree is available in the following emphases: music performance and music education.

The B.M. in music with emphasis in music performance prepares students to become professional musicians (performing as woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instrumentalists, pianists or vocalists) and/or for graduate or professional school. This emphasis can be completed with a concentration (option) in piano, instrumental, or vocal as principal instrument.

The General Engineering program at University of Mississippi is heavily rooted in mathematics, science, and core engineering coursework, but offers a breadth and flexibility not offered by other programs in order to enable students to tailor a program of study to suit their interests and career goals.

Political science majors at the University of Mississippi conduct policy analysis and study political actors and organizations within the context of American government and politics, comparative government and politics, and international relations. To study English is to explore the power of texts in expressing human cultures and imaginations and to hone foundational skills in argumentation and analysis through writing and research.

English majors at the University of Mississippi encounter novels, poems, stories, epics, plays, films, autobiographies and more from the year 449 CE to today. Students will navigate the stimulating and diverse world of English-language literatures. They may also select an emphasis in creative writing where they develop their own voice. Students complete a literary interpretation course, courses across five literature periods or groups, and a capstone course with a significant research and writing component.

Literature and literary studies are at the core of the humanities and at the center of debates concerning culture, politics, education, and language. The Master of Criminal Justice (M.C.J.) promotes evidence-based policy and practice and prepares future leaders in the fields of criminal justice, emergency management, and homeland security by conducting relevant, innovative research and offering cutting-edge courses.

Emphasis - Criminal Justice Policy and Practice
The M.C.J. with emphasis in criminal justice policy and practice prepares a graduate for a variety of criminal justice and related positions.

Marketing students learn how to research target audiences, advise on how to develop products for consumer desires, and determine product pricing structure. Students learn to select effective channels to communicate with customers and develop and implement promotional strategies.

Marketing is a creative, fast-paced industry. Our faculty will help you get inside the mind of prospective customers so you’ll know how to promote, develop, and sell products to them. Remember, without a plan, there is no sale!

The B.A. in chemistry is designed for students who wish to pursue a degree in the physical sciences with a broad liberal arts background. Some students use this degree program to prepare for admission to pharmacy school or as the basis for studies in environmental law. Students interested in teaching chemistry at the high-school level may use this degree to prepare for alternate route teacher certification by following a specified curriculum with a minor in either biological science, mathematics, or physics.
