There are three degrees in economics at the University of Mississippi: the Bachelor of Business Administration in economics, the Bachelor of Arts in economics, and the more technical Bachelor of Science in economics. The B.A. degree is the most flexible program that provides broad social science training. Students take introductory and advanced micro and macro economics, statistics, and then pursue their own interests with economics electives.

Economics provides a broad and systematic way of thinking about social, financial, and business problems. The B.A. in economics prepares a graduate for many positions in business and government. Some positions are economic analyst, statistician, and research assistant.

Real Estate students at the University of Mississippi develop an in-depth understanding of appraisal and real estate development, including buying, selling, and managing residential and commercial properties and land.

What will you learn?
You’ll receive instruction in principles, finance, appraisal, law, land use controls, and investment analysis. You’ll learn about brokerage, lending, corporate positions, and government agencies. On graduation, you will be prepared for examinations for state real estate broker and salesperson licenses.

The B.A. in theatre arts is a comprehensive, flexible degree that allows students to study various aspects of theatre such as performance ( acting, musical theatre, dance), theatrical production (stage management, directing), design (scenic, costumes, lighting, sound), film production, dramaturgy, theatre history, and dramatic literature. The B.A. degree is designed for students who want to teach, to pursue graduate education, to work in the entertainment industry, or to complement a double major or dual degree program.

The B.A. in biochemistry is designed for students who intend to pursue a career in medicine, dentistry, or other health-related fields. The curriculum associated with this degree program closely follows the recommendations of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), and it prepares students to take the MCAT and DAT.

The study of classics includes every aspect of the ancient Mediterranean world, with exploration of ancient languages, literatures, history, art, and archaeology.

Classics majors gain a complex view of the ancient Mediterranean world and explore their own world as they do so. They address questions of human and historical significance through the works of the Greeks and Romans; understand the modern cultural world by recognizing its roots in the past; know their own language better by learning Greek or Latin; explore the world through study abroad; and strengthen their ability to read, communicate, observe, and think analytically.

The B.A. in classics is an interdisciplinary degree involving the study of ancient Greek and Latin, literature in translation, history, classical archaeology, and art history.

The M.A. in history is offered as either a thesis or nonthesis option. Students in the M.A. program may study a variety of topics and chronological sweeps of American and European history, as well as much of the histories of Africa, Latin America, and East Asia.

The Bachelor of Social Work at Ole Miss prepares students to integrate the knowledge, values and skills of the social work profession for competent practice in settings with individuals, families, groups, organizations, institutions and communities.

The B.S.W. degree prepares students to work as generalist social workers in a variety of settings with individuals, families, groups, communities, or organizations.

The B.A. allows greater compatibility with other areas of study, while still providing specialized training in the applied concentrations of instrumental, keyboard, or voice.

The Master of Music is an advanced professional degree designed to develop a particular area in music to a high level of specialization. The university offers the M.M. with the following emphases:

• Performance in woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instruments, piano, and voice;
• Music education;

• Music theory;
• Ethnomusicology;
• Collaborative piano.

Emphasis - Choral Conducting
The M.M. degree with an emphasis in choral conducting is designed to give the student advanced training in choral conducting and score study and/or prepares him/her for study at the doctoral level.

Sociology is the systematic study of human social life. The B.A. in sociology provides students with the basic tools of sociological analysis including social research methods (both quantitative and qualitative) and theory. The curriculum in sociology equips students to more effectively negotiate the diverse society in which we live by addressing social inequalities, culture, community development, social institutions, and social change.
