Visual communicators tell stories. With a major in visual communications, you can learn to tell stories through photography, video, illustration, print publications or electronic design. Our core courses teach you the basics, and as you discover your talents, you choose the electives and out-of-classroom experiences that match your interests.

As a visual communications major, you will use the latest technology in a series of courses that emphasize multimedia production and writing. Later, you can apply your knowledge in an internship with an ad agency, public relations firm, newspaper or magazine, hone your skills and gain valuable hands-on experience in your visual communications specialty. As a senior, you will complete a capstone experience in which you will prepare a multimedia portfolio that will allow you to shine in a competitive job market.

The bachelor's in music is designed for students who want to major in music while receiving a broad, liberal arts education. B.A. students will select a cognate (12 credits) or minor area (18 credits) outside the School of Music to prepare for a variety of careers that may be interdisciplinary in nature.

Students must satisfy all general education requirements as specified in the chosen degree. These requirements are designed to give students broad experience in liberal arts and sciences and opportunities to develop intellectual skills in analysis and evaluation, as well as competence in written and oral communication.

• Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical concepts, legal implications, considerations and practices that guide the mass media professions.  
• Demonstrate the ability to apply tools and technologies appropriate for the production, editing and presentation of visual, aural, textual or other media content.  
• Apply basic numerical and statistical concepts and methods appropriate for the communications professions.

This professional degree provides coursework in criminal justice system operation, criminology, research methods, and statistics. In addition to providing career advancement, the program also provides rigorous social science training that prepares you for continued doctoral study, should you choose to pursue it.

Our criminal justice program promotes state-of-the-art research and instruction in subject areas that are crucial to the effective and orderly working of modern society.

You will learn theories of and responses to social deviance, law and the legal system, administration theory and evaluation, law enforcement, juvenile justice systems and procedures, and crime prevention models. You will also be able to attend numerous conferences and lectures to broaden your professional perspective.

As a criminal justice major, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on internship experience that will add to your educational experience. You can gain additional experience by participating in the Campus Patrol Office program, which offers students who qualify an opportunity to gain hands-on experience as an employee of the University of South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement and Safety. The innovative, dynamic work of civil and environmental engineers can be seen everywhere in today's world. Graduate programs in civil and environmental engineering provide students with expertise in a subfield of civil and environmental engineering, an opportunity for an in-depth research experience at the frontiers of these fields, and skills for life-long learning and professional development. Our research projects stem from many areas of civil and environmental engineering and are often conducted by multidisciplinary teams and researchers of different backgrounds.

South Carolina is blessed with a coast full of beautiful beaches as well as estuaries and tidal areas teeming with marine life. Take advantage of hands-on learning opportunities that allow you to participate in a multitude of research experiences along our precious coast and around the world.

As a marine science major, you will obtain interdisciplinary knowledge in marine science as well as core knowledge in an area of emphasis chosen from among biological oceanography, chemical oceanography, physical oceanography, geological oceanography or coastal resource management and marine policy.

You will be exposed to real field experiences during an early summer course where you may spend three full weeks at the Baruch Institute at North Inlet Estuary in Georgetown, S.C. The Baruch Institute is an internationally acclaimed research laboratory with the main building of the complex comprising 18 air-conditioned research laboratories, a computer center, a seminar room and more.

Back on campus, you will be exposed to challenging coursework with laboratory components. To enhance your educational experience, you will be encouraged to get involved with faculty research projects and participate in activities such as marine science seminars and recruiting visits by industry and government organizations.

Graduates with a BS in Mathematics will, if they wish to pursue studies at the graduate level, be prepared with the necessary analytical skills, openness to new ideas, and positive attitudes (patience, persistence, and enthusiasm) for success. Those going on to employment will have the analytical skills that they need, an ability to learn new ones, and habits of mind that are conducive to productive and rewarding work. Graduates will be aware that mathematics is often a collaborative activity, and that careful reading and clear writing are as important as computational skills. They will know that mathematics is continually growing as research answers old questions and brings forth new ones. Finally, they will find joy in learning, doing, and communicating mathematics to others.

In the Master of Science in Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurial Engineering program, you will learn about innovation and entrepreneurial theories and apply them in the real world.

The goal of this one-year graduate program is to inspire entrepreneurial-minded science and engineering students to take leaderships roles in product design in large organizations and embark on new business ventures. The program includes an integrated curriculum, new venture creation projects, an innovation immersion module, and is taught by a blend of academic faculty and experienced entrepreneurs and investors from the private sector.

Combining sound business analytics, a solid grounding in engineering principles and an understanding of technical viability, this program prepares students to evaluate the products and processes that influence current and future markets.
