Overview
Are you interested in learning about some of the most pressing social issues of the day, such as immigration, discrimination, economic and social inequality, demographic change, race and ethnic relations, and health and well-being? If so, our sociology program may be right for you. You can pursue a B.A. or B.S. degree in sociology or continue your learning by pursuing the accelerated bachelor's/graduate study plan, in which you receive a master's degree in sociology. The department offers graduate degrees at the master's and doctoral levels.
As a sociology major, you will explore complex issues of power, inequality, identity and conflict across a variety of different social groups and social institutions, such as schools, families and law enforcement. You will also learn to question common wisdoms, raise important questions, examine arguments, synthesize information, analyze data, make conclusions and present arguments supported by empirical research and sociological theory, both orally and in writing.
As part of your learning, you will be able to take advantage of outstanding facilities that include the Laboratory for Sociological Research, one of the largest facilities of its type in the world, and a statistics laboratory. You can also develop your own research project or collaborate with faculty members on a project and participate in department events, including guest speaker presentations and workshops.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Undergraduate Academic Accelerator Pathway (2-Term) - Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Studies is designed for students who want to major in music while receiving a broad, liberal arts education. No audition is required for this major, making it the perfect choice for students who desire a career in music but may lack traditional training. A large part of the degree is based on experiential learning, with students engaging with professionals via guest lectures, interactive job site visits and shadowing, and internships.
Students must satisfy all general education requirements as specified in the chosen degree. These requirements are designed to give students broad experience in liberal arts and sciences and opportunities to develop intellectual skills in analysis and evaluation, as well as competence in written and oral communication. Course work also includes a basic education in music, along with courses in recording sciences, live event promotions and production, marketing and entrepreneurship. Studies culminate in a two-semester capstone project that draws on the student's experiences and allows them to focus on the area of the music industry that they are most strongly drawn to.

Undergraduate Extended Accelerator Pathway (3-Term) - Bachelor of Arts in International Studies
Emphasizing the interdisciplinary pursuit of comparative and/or international politics, the international studies program is designed to create the leaders of tomorrow. We allow students to tailor their programs of study to focus on such topics as foreign policy, global economic or environmental studies, or international conflict and cooperation.
As an international studies major, you will gain an understanding about how politics, government and governance shape the world and the quality of citizenship in the world. You will benefit from outstanding faculty members and challenging coursework that will help you develop critical learning skills, especially as related to the study of politics.
You will be able to focus on one or two fields within international studies, such as international security, international economics, U.S. foreign policy, global environmental politics, international human rights, Latin American studies, European studies, African studies, Asian studies and international development. You will also complete a public service internship to gain hands-on experience.

The art history program offers courses in ancient, medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, 18th-century, modern, American and Asian art, as well as architecture and film and photo history. General survey and special topics courses are offered every semester. Our faculty consists of dedicated teachers who are also nationally and internationally recognized scholars.
Through classroom instruction and additional research and internship opportunities students develop skills in visual analysis, historical understanding, critical thinking, research and writing, and intellectual and practical problem solving.

Graduate Advanced Master Accelerator Pathway (1-Term) - Master of Science in Environmental Health Sciences (STEM)
The M.S. degree is an academic research degree, which may be tailored to individual interests and job market needs. This degree requires a minimum of 36 graduate hours and combines real-world problem solving and research skills with other technical, health and related skills to prepare effective environmental health researchers for the public and private sectors. M.S. program graduates are often employed within federal, state and local public health and environmental protection agencies, federal and state research laboratories, contract research laboratories, industry, consulting firms and universities. Positions include research scientist, water quality specialist, toxicologist, ecotoxicologist, health physicist and environmental law enforcement.

Undergraduate Extended Accelerator Pathway (3-Term) - Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary program highly focused on the improvement of human health, combining the innovative skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to improve health care from diagnostics to treatment.
As a biomedical engineering major, you will develop the ability to identify, formulate and solve open-ended problems at the interface of engineering and medicine using skills acquired in mathematics; biological, chemical and physical sciences; and engineering. You will also learn how to communicate technical material, function on a multidisciplinary team, demonstrate professional and ethical responsibility, continue along a path of lifelong learning, and recognize economic, social and global issues related to the profession.
