The philosophy major exposes you to some of the greatest minds in human history. You are able to discuss and develop ideas with professors and peers, as well as build the reading, writing and critical thinking skills that are essential to a human being.

The new Master of Science in Computer Science degree program is built on a 96-year foundation of engineering and computer science at University of the Pacific. The one to two-year program, taught at the iconic ivy-covered campus in Stockton, California, teaches students advanced techniques and best practices of professional research and establishes the intellectual foundations for achieving excellence in the field of computer science. Graduates of the degree program will be prepared to create new technologies and enhance existing systems with a curriculum that dives into machine learning, data science, virtual reality, and more. Whether you are a working adult, a residentially-based undergraduate student, a transfer student, or looking to make a career change into Computer Science, we offer a variety of flexible plans of study to meet many needs.

We challenge students to study the religious practices, beliefs, institutions, and texts of ancient and modern societies. Through these studies, students learn about the religious phenomena that have shaped human civilizations. In addition to deep knowledge of this religious and cultural activity, our students acquire intellectual skills that serve them throughout their educational endeavors and beyond. Religion has historically shaped and continues to influence cultures and institutions worldwide. It is useful to explore spiritual traditions in order to examine ultimate religious and ethical questions.

A typical course in the department includes students from various backgrounds and academic disciplines, and it affords significant opportunity for provocative interdisciplinary discussion.

Students will graduate with the ability to reflect upon, appreciate, and be open to criticism, practices, beliefs, and institutions of other cultures as well as their own. Through this exposure, students come to better understand the world, themselves, and their place in the world.

Computer science majors are part of a constantly evolving field that has virtually unlimited growth. From programming technology for major companies to creating video games that are played by millions, computer scientists build and maintain complex technological systems used throughout society.

Pacific’s computer science program offers three concentrations, which define a focused set of upper-division elective courses:

• Graphics and simulation
• Networking and computer security
• Software development.

All three concentrations are built upon a foundation of math, science and engineering that prepares students to be successful and adaptable as new technologies emerge.

As an economics major or minor, you will be taught how to conceptualize your own roles in society, whether acting as an individual, a member of a private-sector firm or as a public servant in the government sector. You will learn how to apply theoretical understanding and analytical skills to a wide variety of issues, problems and policies.

You will graduate ready to put those skills to use across a wide variety of industries working in business, finance, law or for governmental or non-profit agencies in nearly any field.

All of our classes emphasize real-world applications and implications of the material, always making the connection between what you are learning in the classroom and what you will need to be successful in your career and as citizen-leader.

The Department of Psychology is a large, thriving community where students are exposed to several fascinating areas of study including behavioral, biological, clinical, cognitive, developmental and social psychology. The diversity of course, fieldwork and internship offerings provides students with opportunities to study and have first-hand experience with a wide range of human behaviors and problems.

Our students graduate with valuable research and applied experience, which enriches their education at Pacific and greatly increases their attractiveness as future employees, graduate students or professional school students.

The Social Sciences major is an interdisciplinary program that provides training in History, Political Science, Sociology, Economics and Geography. Social Sciences students learn both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in their exploration of human society. Graduates may pursue careers such as business administration, government, law, law enforcement, human resources, and public policy. The major is also designed for students interested in high school teaching and coaching. The major is aligned with the Social Science subject matter exam on the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET). Prospective teachers must earn a passing score on the the Social Sciences CSET exam to be certified as teachers.

This major appeals to students with a broad range of interests. Students completing the Social Sciences major in the College of the Pacific may also concurrently complete the Single Subject Credential through the Benerd School of Education. The major requires a minimum of 45 semester units, detailed below. The Music Performance major offers you an opportunity to study the fundamental principles of your chosen instrument through a broad range of pedagogical approaches that culminate in the holistic performance of a broad range of literature. Our faculty are professional musicians and educators experienced in all facets of performance. Students have the opportunity to perform in master classes, solo recitals and in a wide range of ensembles including band, orchestra, jazz, choir, opera, contemporary and chamber music.

Whether pursuing further study in graduate school or directly entering the world of music, you will feel well prepared for a music career of choice.

Pacific has created a distinctive accelerated Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene for highly qualified students. In addition to clinical practice, the baccalaureate hygiene degree allows entry into many positions in teaching, research, administration, public health, private industry and other areas of hygiene practice, as well as application for entry into advanced degree programs.

First-year admission to the Dental Hygiene program is competitive and based on merit. A student may apply as a first-year student in a Dental Hygiene major, completing the prerequisite coursework listed below at Pacific. A high school GPA of at least 2.7 is required, as well as courses in biology, chemistry and other college-preparatory classes.

To advance directly to the upper-division major coursework at the Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, students must complete their prerequisite coursework with a minimum 3.0 GPA. In addition to the successful completion of the pre-requisite coursework, transfer students are required to have 2 letters of recommendation of their choosing, and have completed a minimum of 20 hours of shadowing with a dental hygienist. Dental Hygiene majors who began our program as freshmen at the Stockton campus who earn a GPA below 3.0 may still apply to the upper-division dental hygiene courses. Since matriculation is not automatic, they will be guaranteed an interview, but not guaranteed admission.
