Information Technology Management
This concentration prepares you for decision making roles related to the creation, management and use of information and information technologies as essential tools for problem solving and public management within single organizations and across multiple organizations, sectors, and levels of government.

Drawing from public administration and other fields, you will learn how policies, organizational factors, information content, and information and communication technologies influence decisions and performance.

To develop specialized skills, you can earn sub-concentrations by taking multiple courses in one or two sub-fields: Information Strategy and Management, Data Analytics and Modeling, Information Policy, or Cybersecurity.

The Writing Concentration within the English major enriches your experience through extended treatment of the process of writing and of the rhetorical and artistic aspects of writing. The concentration also supports exploration of the dynamics of working with writers as editors, tutors, and teachers. It brings together the subfields of creative writing and rhetoric and writing studies and allows you to explore writing in its multi-faceted dimensions as a rhetorical and a poetic activity, skill, practice, object of study, and art.

The English major’s required core courses and survey courses as well as the required 9 hours of electives are vital in supporting this sustained exploration of writing. The concentration allows English majors who select from an array of electives that emphasize the practice and theory of writing to indicate on their transcripts this emphasis on writing. The concentration will thus serve as a professional credential for graduates, as repeated and varied practice in writing and understanding of theories of writing are desired by employers and professional graduate programs.

Film Studies

• Take advantage of the option to fulfill your art history requirements with coursework in Film Studies. Critical studies courses on film history, theory, criticism, and contemporary film topics can accompany video production courses or other hands-on learning and creative output projects.

Honors Program in Art History

• An Honors Program in Art History allows declared Art History majors who have excelled in at least their first 12 credits of Art History coursework to pursue an advanced program of study and independent research. The Honors program will prepare you for pursuing in-depth graduate work in art history, art conservation, museum studies, or film studies.

Curate your expertise on the cultures and histories of Africans and African Americans with a Master of Arts in Africana Studies. UAlbany was the first university to offer an Africana Studies graduate degree and remains one of the few institutions in the nation with an MA program in the field. The Africana Studies MA prepares you for many possible careers, from education to law, and for further study at the doctoral level.

A multi-disciplinary program, the MA in Africana Studies explores topics in politics, culture, history, and social science. Choose one of two concentrations – African Studies or African American Studies – and select from subfields such as psychology and literature to further align your program of study with your interests.
