Through courses on marketing principles, consumer behavior, marketing research and advertising and promotion, the program introduces concepts and tools employed by successful professionals. It also emphasizes team-oriented projects that enable you to apply various principles of marketing management to actual business problems.

Participate in governing of SUNY Oswego chapter of the American Marketing Association. You’ll discover new approaches in marketing — such as e-marketing, social marketing, the role of media in integrated marketing communications and branding — through classroom discussions, case simulations and class activities. The year long capstone experience places students in a position of developing software for real clients. The laboratory and instructional facilities support and encourage creativity and teamwork. Oswego’s software engineering program — the first in all of SUNY — provides a systems-oriented curriculum that encompasses software requirements, design, construction, testing, maintenance, configuration management, engineering management, engineering process, tools and quality assurance.

Join the Computer Science Association, which sponsors guest speakers, conducts programming contests, arranges tours of companies that hire graduates and provides opportunities for advanced students to tutor and mentor first-year students. Develop software for real clients during your year-long capstone experience. Pursue an internship or co-op opportunity in a company or institution, and gain software development experience in finance, defense, manufacturing, government or other fields.

SUNY Oswego’s bachelor of science degree program in Software Engineering (SE) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET — the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

You may choose a concentration in global politics and governance, global political economy, global culture or area studies. Core courses encompass international and global events, organizations, structures and processes — as well as the global economy, global media and increasing worldwide cultural interconnectedness. During the senior year, you will choose either a capstone seminar in your concentration or a relevant internship in an international area. In consultation with an adviser, you can develop a more directed program of study — such as a focus on development in the Third World or on globalism.

Apply to live in the Hart Hall Global Living and Learning Center to become part of a unique community of students and faculty with a deep interest in global affairs. You’ll take at least 6 credit hours of a foreign language at the intermediate level, enhancing your ability to communicate internationally. Study abroad and deepen your understanding of the culture — and your proficiency in the language — through firsthand personal experience.`

You’ll find numerous performance opportunities in credit-bearing musical organizations and in private studio instruction open to all qualified students regardless of major. Develop comprehensive musicianship through a combination of two years of music theory, three semesters of music history, one year of piano proficiency and a minimum of two years of applied studio instruction and ensemble performance.

Develop your talent in private or group lessons; at Oswego, these are available on all instruments and voice, taught by talented faculty. Apply to join one of two large choirs, or select vocal ensemble, orchestra, wind ensemble or jazz bands. Gain musical theatre and operatic experiences through our collaborations with the theatre department. Excel, and you may be eligible to join Mu Beta Psi, a national honorary music fraternity, or Pi Kappa Lambda, a national music honor society.

The recently renovated Tyler Hall, the music department’s home base, contains a large theatre, two sizable rehearsal/performance rooms, many practice rooms, a state-of-the-art digital piano lab, a fully equipped multi-station computer MIDI lab, a music learning center and a digital multi-track based recording studio.

In addition to beginning, intermediate and advanced language courses, we offer courses in literature, both in French and in English translation. The literature courses cover major authors and periods as well as specific genre courses, including poetry, theater and film.

A semester- or year-long study program in Paris or Nice enables you to experience French life and culture on a daily basis and enhance fluency in the language. Several students have chosen to study for a semester or summer in Quebec. Students and faculty participate in the French Club and organize film series and other programs that explore the multicultural diversity of Francophonia as well as occasional trips to the province of Quebec. Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour, and in the friendly department’s foyer. The department also sponsors a chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society. Several students have gone on to prestigious Teaching Assistant Program in France positions.

Choose from a diverse selection of courses, including transportation systems, electronics and mechatronics, design, computer-aided drafting (CAD), mechanical/architectural drafting, construction systems, materials processing, instructional technologies, manufacturing and energy technologies. With the ever-evolving nature of technology, you'll learn on updated tools and gain the foundation to handle the workplace of today and the future.

Join the active Oswego Technology Education Association student organization. Get involved in community service projects, including scholastic robot competitions. Work with faculty on applied projects. Take advantage of an internship or co-op opportunity to put what you've learned to work in hands-on experience. Help with Team Mini, the department's popular miniature zamboni.

You will be able to tailor your education to meet your goals. Choose between a thesis track focusing on research designed for students who wish to gain more experience in research or a non-thesis track for students interested in taking more courses. Both tracks will help students to enter the workforce upon graduation or to apply to Ph.D. programs following their master’s degree. SUNY Oswego’s research intensive program using advanced facilities in the research labs makes students more marketable to industry, Ph.D. institutions, and professional/medical schools. 

Our program includes a professional track option designed to include business management electives selected from our award-winning MBA programs. Students will take courses such as operations management to prepare for the application of business principles to chemistry.

Our art department's creative spaces and opportunities, avenues for individual and group projects, professors with varied art backgrounds and several majors and minors offer many paths to fulfillment and future success.

By working with both studio and graphic arts, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.

Clubs including Arts Alive and Break Thru Design let you connect and collaborate with peers while developing additional portfolio pieces, while internships and co-op opportunities add to your professional qualifications.

We offer multiple studios specializing in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, photography and foundation design, plus woodshop and digital-imaging labs.

The program combines interdisciplinary courses from the departments of anthropology, art, economics, English and creative writing, history, music, philosophy, political science and sociology. With guidance from your faculty advisor, the program can be tailored to your interests, and culminates with a senior seminar concentrating on some aspect or period of American life.

Because of the interdisciplinary approach, students can intern in a variety of fields ranging from museums to publishers to government agencies. The city of Oswego’s rich history as a center for trade, commerce and military defense makes SUNY Oswego the perfect place to study this topic. Oswego historic attractions include Fort Ontario, a key installation in early wars; the Safe Haven Museum, commemorating a one-of-its-kind shelter for Jewish and other refugees fleeing Europe during World War II; and connections with the Underground Railroad.

Multidisciplinary courses in such topics as anthropology, sociology, the family, or communication and counseling, provide additional background from other social sciences. Through a personalized learning agreement, you can add three additional courses from different disciplines relevant to your personal educational and career goals.

Select two semester-long internships relevant to your career goals, and apply the academic material you’ve learned to working with people in a human-services role. Take courses to focus on the application of the scientific method in program settings to better and more efficiently serve people using skills in program development and evaluation.
