You will be able to tailor your education to meet your goals. Choose between a thesis track focusing on research designed for students who wish to gain more experience in research or a non-thesis track for students interested in taking more courses. Both tracks will help students to enter the workforce upon graduation or to apply to Ph.D. programs following their master’s degree. SUNY Oswego’s research intensive program using advanced facilities in the research labs makes students more marketable to industry, Ph.D. institutions, and professional/medical schools. 

Our program includes a professional track option designed to include business management electives selected from our award-winning MBA programs. Students will take courses such as operations management to prepare for the application of business principles to chemistry.

The program instills the ability to speak and write clearly, present logical arguments, imagine diverse possibilities, defend a position and appreciate alternative points of view — skills important to your employability, job security, advancement and ultimate satisfaction in life.

Throughout the interaction design program students will focus on experimentation, prototyping, iteration, storytelling and problem solving, and continually develop their skills through discussions and critiques.

Our outstanding digital studios are equipped with industry-standard programs and technologies to support a wide range of projects in a hands-on studio environment. In addition to studios, our “maker-spaces” assist students in preparing portfolios and framing, digital photography, audio/video production, and sensor technology for interaction projects.

Clubs including Arts Alive and Break Thru Design let you connect and collaborate with peers to develop additional portfolio pieces, while internships and co-op opportunities add to your professional qualifications.

After graduation, students will be prepared to enter and lead in fields including user experience, user interface, extended reality, multimedia design, motion design, web design, product design, 3-D design and printing, and other emerging fields.

The study of modern languages, literatures and cultures like German is especially important in a global society, as it helps emphasize similarities and improve communication between people and nations. Our Department of Languages and Literatures, among the largest in the SUNY system, offers learning in small classes led by faculty who encourage active use of your chosen language, as well as many study-abroad opportunities.

Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour and in the friendly department's foyer. Attend foreign films, lectures, discussions and field trips, and participate in German-American programs. Take advantage of our robust study-abroad and exchange programs with German universities or a Global Cities course in Berlin.

Biochemists explore the molecular nature of cells, study the development of illnesses, search for new drugs, predict undeveloped/inherited health problems and help forensic experts identify criminals. Our undergraduate curriculum includes chemistry, mathematics, physics, genetics and biology. Accredited by the American Chemical Society and ranking in the top three in the number of certified degrees awarded in New York, our biochemistry degree will help you pursue graduate study, attend health-related professional schools, or work in entry-level positions at laboratories or in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Join the student affiliate of the American Chemical Society (ACS), which offers free tutoring and other services — and has often been cited as one of the most outstanding in the country. Excel and you may qualify for the chemistry honors program, which emphasizes independent study and research — or even the national honor societies Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi.

SUNY Oswego’s Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Research Center — the research and teaching facility where you’ll take a number of your lab classes — conducts important work in cancer and anti-diabetic drug discovery, the effects of lead on the cardiovascular system, ecological and genetic studies and more. Updated and powerful labs in the Shineman Center will aid all your research pursuits.

Our flexible curriculum gives you the opportunity to combine your passions with the foundational coursework. This built-in adaptability helps you focus on what you need to succeed, based on your background. 

Requirements allow substantial freedom for students both in designing individual programs within economics and in balancing the programs with subjects in other disciplines. Choose from a wide variety of economics courses, including relatively unique offerings such as American economic history, the economics of gender and baseball economics. Excel and you may qualify for our honors program, which includes a course in econometrics and an advanced independent study.

Take advantage of internships: Oswego students have interned at major banks and investment institutions, and worked as teaching assistants and peer tutors. Participate in national and regional competitions such as the College Fed Challenge, which encourages students to learn more about the U.S. macro economy and the Federal Reserve System. Our Enactus student organization designs educational projects to help developing countries better understand free-enterprise principles. Conduct and present your own research in the senior capstone seminar.

The Public Accounting MBA combines a comprehensive business curriculum with required accounting courses in tax, theory, audit and government accounting. The program prepares students for high-level careers in accounting and finance.

In addition to beginning, intermediate and advanced language courses, we offer courses in literature, both in French and in English translation. The literature courses cover major authors and periods as well as specific genre courses, including poetry, theater and film.

A semester- or year-long study program in Paris or Nice enables you to experience French life and culture on a daily basis and enhance fluency in the language. Several students have chosen to study for a semester or summer in Quebec. Students and faculty participate in the French Club and organize film series and other programs that explore the multicultural diversity of Francophonia as well as occasional trips to the province of Quebec. The department also sponsors a chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society. Several students have gone on to prestigious Teaching Assistant Program in France positions.

In this program, we aim to develop your skills and aesthetic understanding in an artistic discipline. Students are required to take courses that blend studio practice with references to art history and theory. You have the chance to work closely with teachers who are committed to creative work in their own field and encourage students to follow the same path. The program encourages you to strive for the creation of a significant body of art work representing very high levels of achievement.

This selective program emphasizing studio art includes several phases of professional competence in the department with the possible inclusion of other disciplines outside the department when necessary.
