Our faculty members provide practitioner and theorist perspectives, while the program teaches students how to create and implement strategic public relations programs and offer everyday counsel to management. Meteorologists study the atmosphere and its physical and chemical characteristics and processes, weather patterns and climate. We offer specialized study in different subsections of meteorology, atmospheric and cloud physics, climatology, instruments and air pollution.

Participate in our pioneering Storm Chasers summer program where you'll forecast, pursue and observe extreme weather through the Great Plains states. Join the campus chapter of the American Meteorological Society and attend meetings of the professional AMS with your professors. Get on-air experience as a future TV meteorologist at WTOP, our on-campus television station. Find ample chances to present your own research. Our program and alumni success opens up internship opportunities in such places as the National Weather Service, government agencies, private-sector meteorological firms and television stations.

You’ll have abundant opportunities to engage in hands-on research with faculty through the Lake-Effect Storm Prediction and Research Center. Our observation equipment constantly monitors changes in local weather, with a constant online stream of the latest observational and forecast data. A mesoscale model also provides local forecast data. Interactive graphical interfaces along with specialized graphics provide state-of-the-art visualization for meteorological data. Meteorology lab spaces in the Shineman Center offer hands-on opportunities with advanced tools like our wind tunnel and weather balloon system.

The study of modern languages, literatures and cultures helps emphasize similarities and improve communication between people and nations in our global society. Our department of modern languages and literatures, among the largest in the SUNY system, offers learning in small classes led by faculty who encourage active use of your chosen language, as well as many study-abroad opportunities.

Practice your language skills at the weekly international coffee hour and in the friendly department’s foyer. Attend foreign films, lectures, discussions and field trips, and participate in Hispanic Heritage Month and other programs. Take advantage of study-abroad programs in Barcelona and Latin America, or enroll in a Global Cities course that takes you to Madrid.

Offered jointly by the Atmospheric and Geological Sciences Department and Chemistry Department, this program covers topics ranging from the chemical makeup of Venus to the search for oil on Earth. Courses cover general, historical and structural geology; mineralogy; petrology; and physical chemistry.

Facilities include four full-sized laboratories, a seismograph for recording worldwide earthquakes and a geology computer lab in the Shineman Center.

Throughout the interaction design program students will focus on experimentation, prototyping, iteration, storytelling and problem solving, and continually develop their skills through discussions and critiques.

Our outstanding digital studios are equipped with industry-standard programs and technologies to support a wide range of projects in a hands-on studio environment. In addition to studios, our “maker-spaces” assist students in preparing portfolios and framing, digital photography, audio/video production, and sensor technology for interaction projects.

Clubs including Arts Alive and Break Thru Design let you connect and collaborate with peers to develop additional portfolio pieces, while internships and co-op opportunities add to your professional qualifications.

After graduation, students will be prepared to enter and lead in fields including user experience, user interface, extended reality, multimedia design, motion design, web design, product design, 3-D design and printing, and other emerging fields.

Our program provides a foundation in the principles of geology and its related sciences with four laboratories, a seismograph and field experiences. A newer track on environmental earth sciences integrates a set of cross-disciplinary environmental science experiences from biological sciences, chemistry, meteorology and physics.

Oswego is ideally located for field studies of Lake Ontario, carbonate and clastic sedimentary rocks of the Lower Paleozoic age, Precambrian rocks of the Adirondacks, Pleistocene glacial features and the pollution of rivers and ground waters. Field trips may include southeastern Pennsylvania, the Chesapeake Bay, Ithaca, Whitaker State Park, and the Catskill Mountains.

Gain an in-depth and interdisciplinary experience, grounded in five core linguistics courses that examine the foundational properties of natural languages — plus eight additional courses that observe language from a variety of other perspectives.

You can creatively mix courses and interests for an exciting and useful major. Combine a double-major in linguistics with another field of your choosing. The curriculum helps develop problem-solving and writing abilities — two essential skills for today’s demanding job markets. You can choose to study and investigate a number of specialization areas including cellular and molecular, organismal and systematic, genetic and developmental, or environmental and population biology. After introductory core courses, students and professors work together to design a program of additional courses to fit your professional career interests. Careful selection of electives, research courses, projects and internships can prepare you for particular careers, graduate studies and/or training at professional schools (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine).
