Your examination of public communication will include the study of public speaking and the principles of persuasion, argumentation and rhetoric. You’ll actively participate in class discussions on topics such as the ways individuals differ in their communication of gender and culture. 

Students apply practical outcomes of their education through a service learning requirement that is part of their degree program. We strongly encourage internships, co-ops, independent studies and other opportunities to apply your campus learning experiences. If you excel, you may be eligible to join the department’s honor society, Lambda Pi Eta.

Student media The Oswegonian, WTOP-TV and WNYO-FM, as well as on-campus National Public Radio affiliate WRVO, provide opportunities to put your communication skills into action through performance, promotion and running social media accounts.

The program has a core that requires the student to develop an understanding of, and ability to apply, the fundamentals of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, the student narrows focus to complete additional and more advanced work at the intersection of at least two of these disciplines. Students interested in pursuing careers in law, politics, public service, or any field concerned with developing or interpreting social policy, will find the course of study uniquely beneficial.

As a PP&E major you will learn study the core methods and theories of each of the constituting disciplines. Then, after completing your core requirements, you can specialize in two of the disciplines to more advanced study and work: political economy, philosophy and economics, or politics and philosophy.

Facilities and equipment in the Shineman Center include a scanning electron microscope, 300 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, scintillation counter, analytical chromatographs, preparative gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer and many computing facilities.

The curriculum explores the diverse experiences, perspectives, culture, history and significant contributions of women. This interdisciplinary major is designed to develop a broad understanding of the study of gender and women, investigate women's contributions in all areas of academic scholarship, and explore the relationship between cultural definitions of feminine and masculine behaviors and the realities of women's and men's lives. Choose from core or concentration courses to design programs that fit your specific interests and career orientation.

Take advantage of opportunities for learning beyond the traditional classroom by applying for internships, independent studies and seminars under the mentoring of an academic adviser. The program collaborates closely with the Women’s Center, a student organization that puts classroom instruction into practice. Get involved the annual Women Aloud program of performers, poets and speakers that raises funds for scholarships in this program.

This major prepares you for the growing importance of analyzing and understanding data and statistics. You can choose the bachelor of arts in mathematics to focus more on theory, or the bachelor of science in applied mathematics to examine practical applications in science and operations research. Small classes provide you with individual attention from professors who actively involve you in the learning process.

With the department’s approval, enter the honors program in mathematics, where you’ll have the opportunity to pursue advanced topics and work with faculty one-on-one. For an even greater challenge, work on an independent study. Add to your resume with internships and co-op opportunities.

Our art department's creative spaces and opportunities, avenues for individual and group projects, professors with varied art backgrounds and several majors and minors offer many paths to fulfillment and future success.

By working with both studio and graphic arts, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.

In our English program in literary studies, you'll cultivate valuable skills in writing and critical thinking while exploring literary works by diverse writers. Courses stress the importance of critical reading, writing and research to provide you with a background suitable for many kinds of careers. Our diverse faculty teach and publish across the historical and theoretical spectrum, and students benefit from an interdisciplinary mix (for example, a course on crime fiction co-taught by faculty in English and sociology).

Present papers at regional and national research conferences. Publish your work in The Oswegonian student weekly, Great Lake Review creative writing journal and Exist e-publication. Excel and join the Oswego chapter of the international English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta. As a senior, enroll in Words in the World, to connect with the world of professional communications by designing and producing writing and research-related projects for businesses and non-profit organizations.

Core subjects include management, accounting, marketing, organization, law and finance. Specialization in a particular field — international management, manufacturing management, organizational leadership or financial services — can lead to valuable, in-depth study in your area of interest.

Engage in teamwork and practical projects to put what you’re learning into practice — culminating with your capstone experience. Join a student-operated, faculty-advised professional organization such as the Business Management Club or Phi Beta Lambda. Interact with, and gain experience from, professional groups in the business community. Build your resume through internships and co-op opportunities. Biochemists explore the molecular nature of cells, study the development of illnesses, search for new drugs, predict undeveloped/inherited health problems and help forensic experts identify criminals. SUNY Oswego’s Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Research Center — the research and teaching facility where you’ll take a number of your lab classes — conducts important work in cancer and anti-diabetic drug discovery, the effects of lead on the cardiovascular system, ecological and genetic studies and more.
