The International Year program is designed especially for international students. It is the first year of study at Baylor University, where students study a combination of English language courses and credit-bearing academic courses. Physics
The Physics major is the study of matter, energy, force and motion and the way in which they relate to one another. It provides a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for graduate studies or careers in technology, medicine, education, law, finance, industry and other professions. Available courses include:

• Nuclear and Particle Physics
• Computer Model in Physics
• Electricity and Magnetism
• Classical Mechanics
• Statistical and Thermal Physics

Geophysics
A very quantitative track in Geology is called Geophysics, and this degree combines the study of geology with math and physics. The Geophysics major focuses on the structure of the Earth using seismic waves, and these students are highly sought after by petroleum companies. Students choose one of three concentrations: Environmental Geophysics, Earthquake Geophysics and Petroleum Exploration Geophysics. Available courses include:

Marketing
The Marketing major (designated as a pre-major) is a comprehensive study of promoting, pricing and placing a product. Marketing students can choose an emphasis in Sports, Strategy and Sales, Nonprofit and Social Enterprise Marketing or tailor their own marketing emphasis by selecting any three marketing courses beyond what is required.Available courses include:

• Consumer Behavior
• Strategic Brand Management
• Marketing Research

A degree in Marketing qualifies graduates for many occupations like Sales and Customer Service, Product Management, and Marketing Research. Other students find work in Advertising, Sales Promotion, Event Marketing, and Purchasing.  The marketing department works with students to place them in internships to enhance students' resumes and provide experience in the market place.

Sociology
Sociology is the science that studies the social relationships of people. Coursework includes the study of a wide range of human behaviors from individual development, to relational growth, social institutions including groups, organizations, cultures and social structures. Environmental Health Science studies the relationship between the environment and human health. This includes preventing illness by identifying and assessing hazardous agents, environmental sources and limiting exposures to chemical, physical and biological agents in air, water, soil, food and other environments that may impact human health. Environmental health professionals work to ensure safe water, food, air quality and workplace conditions, mitigate the impact of disasters and investigate and help control disease outbreaks. Available courses include:

• Environmental Law & Policy
• Geographic Information Systems

Accounting
The Accounting major (designated as a pre-major) consists of a strong technical foundation in financial accounting. It also involves training in written and oral communication development, teamwork, and critical thinking. The Accounting major prepares students for careers in accounting, auditing, budgeting, computer systems, financial management and taxation. Courses include:

Philosophy
The Philosophy major provides a solid foundation in the history of philosophy.  It also provides an in-depth study of specific subject areas including logic, ethics, aesthetics, epistemology, and metaphysics. This dual emphasis cultivates students' capacity for critical analysis, stimulates independent thinking and promotes sound reasoning based on knowledge, moral discrimination and religious insight. Available courses include:

• Introduction to Ethics
• Philosophy of Science
• History of Medicine
• Philosophical Issues in Feminism

The Philosophy Department offers a Pre-Law track as well as a Medical Concentration. Studying philosophy provides excellent preparation for the problem solving, critical thinking and analytical writing essential for the law and medical professions. Philosophy is also offered as a minor for students wishing to enhance another academic major.

The Economics major is offered in three different degree programs, as a Bachelor of Business Administration (designated as a pre-major), a Bachelor of Arts (BA), or a Bachelor of Science (BS). Each degree program is a slightly different variation of the core curriculum based on the degree requirement differences between the College of Arts and Sciences and the Business School. Available courses include:

• Labor Economics
• Economics of Poverty and Discrimination
• Law and Economics
• International Economics

Choosing an Economics major in the Business School (BBA) provides the opportunity to take classes targeted toward four different career positions: consultant, public agency analyst, international economist or corporate business economist. Other possibilities for students graduating with an Economics degree include taking a position as a product risk analyst or risk and control advisor. A Bachelor of Arts in Economics is ideal for students wishing to attend graduate or law school while the Bachelor of Science in Economics is ideal for those wishing to work in the medical or scientific field.

Public Health program is a nationally accredited degree program. The program prepares students to promote healthy lifestyles and enhance quality of life for individuals and communities. Public Health educators work in a variety of work settings including nonprofit community health organizations, public health agencies, work site and health promotion programs and schools and voluntary health agencies (American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, etc).  Available courses include:

• Introduction to Public and Population Health
• Global Health
• Epidemiology
• Program Planning in Health Education

Public health educators are employed under a variety of job titles. Some examples include a health educator, health promotion specialist, public or clinical health educator, health information specialist, program director, outreach coordinator, patient or treatment adherence educator, health program manager, community organizer and health intervention specialist.

The Health Science Studies major (designated as a pre-major) serves as pre-professional preparation for medical, dental, physical therapy, or other professional graduate programs. The program helps students identify and meet entrance criteria to allied health degree programs.  It also emphasizes health, fitness, and wellness. Available courses include:   

• Global Health
• Epidemiology/Vital Statistics
• Anatomical Kinesiology
• Dimensions of Health Science Studies
• Internship in Human Performance

The program has a long, successful history with students moving on to medical, dental and physical therapy schools. Many also move on to secondary general science educations. Students are encouraged to volunteer at clinics, hospitals, etc. to gain experience in their field of interest.
