The MFA in Game Design is for creative visionaries intent on producing socially, culturally, and emotionally substantial work. The degree prepares students to advance the frontier of games by exploring emerging theories and applying them to practice. The games students create throughout their degree will be challenged by peers and faculty in critiques. Graduates of the program will be equipped to define and realize their authentic, thriving professional lives. An MFA is also a terminal degree that opens opportunities to teach at the university level and enter an academic tenure-track career.

As a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor Science (BS) in Biological Sciences major, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in a wide range of careers in science, research, education, health and other fields.

Inside and outside the classroom, you’ll learn to think independently and work collaboratively. Here, most faculty members direct their own research programs, giving you an opportunity to work on multiple research projects. Biological Sciences majors are encouraged to attend seminars and complete internships.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in education, the Department of Biological Sciences also partners with the College of Education to award teaching degrees.

The Master of Nonprofit Management (MNM) will prepare you for a leadership position in the nonprofit world, or even ready you to start your own nonprofit organization. DePaul’s MNM degree is designed specifically to correspond with the curriculum goals of the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council.

Study communication in the context of popular culture, the corporate world, interpersonal relationships and new media with a master’s degree in Communication and Media. Develop diverse areas of interest while focusing on a specific content area with an optional concentration in Interpersonal Communication, Media and Cinema Studies, Multicultural Communication or Organizational Communication. You’ll master the tools and frameworks to critically examine and resolve real-life communication issues.

Media and Cinema Studies
The Media and Cinema Studies concentration focuses on the critical skills, historical grounding, and research methodologies for understanding the cultural and social impact of film, television and digital media in our globalized society.

Our graduate seminar classes investigate current media-related topics through interdisciplinary perspectives including national and transnational media, film and media histories. The impact and potential of new technologies, the power of audiovisual media in society, the role of media in the formation of identities, aesthetics and popular culture, are also examined.

DePaul's graduate Computer Science program is the premier training ground for computing professionals in the Chicago area. Unlike a certificate program, our master's courses focus on fundamental concepts that remain constant, even as technology changes rapidly. Unlike more research focused institutions, however, our courses emphasize the programmatic application of these fundamental concepts. Students interested in research will find an abundance of advanced topics—medical imaging, data mining, algorithmic analysis, and scientific computing, to name a few.

Our MS in Speech-Language Pathology program will prepare you to become a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who treats all aspects of communicative and swallowing disorders across the life span (children through adults), including the following:

• Fluency
• Receptive and expressive language
• cognitive aspects of communication (attention, memory, sequencing, problem solving, executive functioning)
• Voice and resonance ( including respiration and phonation)
• Speech sound production
• Augmentative and alternative communication
• Hearing (including the impact on speech and language)
• Swallowing
• Social aspects of communication

You’ll take classes that will focus on:

• basic science courses
• specific communication and swallowing disorders
• research methods
• clinical coursework, which includes 400 hours of supervised clinical experience

Here, you’ll gain critical thinking, problem solving and interpersonal skills you need to become an independent clinical practitioner. You’ll be trained to work in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, clinics and private practice.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.

In the Peace, Justice and Conflict Studies major, you will critically examine the origins and root causes of violence and conflict, and learn strategies for resolving interpersonal, communal and international conflicts peacefully. You will master the theoretical and intellectual frameworks related to peace building, human rights advocacy and justice development by learning to interpret real life situations and applying strategies for advocacy, consensus-building, partnership development and other intervention tools.

You will complete an internship with an organization related to peace, social justice or conflict resolution.

The History of Art and Architecture program focuses on the diverse visual traditions of different societies around the world. You will develop visual literacy by critically thinking about how art and architecture affect individuals and societies.

As an art history major, you’ll enhance your persuasive writing, research and oral communication skills and take advantage of Chicago’s extensive cultural resources. As you earn your art history degree, you’ll enrich your classroom experience though site visits to exhibits, museums, urban landscapes and architectural monuments around the city.
