Overview

The Master of Music in composition program offers students one-on-one instruction with DePaul's distinguished faculty of active composers as well as many seminars with guest composers and performers from Chicago and across the country. Graduate composition majors have their compositions performed during DePaul Composers Forum, a quarterly student composition concert, and submit works to be read and possibly performed by Ensemble 20+, DePaul Wind Ensemble, University Singers or the DePaul Chamber Orchestra. DePaul also offers two assistantships to graduate composition students.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Our Management degree program will provide you with an overview of business operations, including techniques to strategically align the human, technology and financial assets of a firm. As a business management major, you’ll become prepared for a career in a variety of service-delivery, manufacturing, consulting, non-profit and digital business environments.

Choose from one of six concentrations — general management, entrepreneurship, human resources, leadership and change management, operations management, or sports management. The courses you take will be tailored to the concentration you choose.

The MS in Cybersecurity is intended for students who wish to specialize in the security aspects of the Information Technology field. This program educates professionals for the fast growing and wide ranging information security and cybersecurity markets by providing foundations in the theory of information security as well as knowledge needed to properly design, implement, and manage secured IT infrastructure and risks in an enterprise. Common career areas include Computer Forensics, Incident Response, Network Security Administration, Risk Assessment, and Web Development.

Governance, Risk Management and Compliance
This concentration focuses on enterprise-level information security risk management, IT audit, and regulatory compliance. Using a cross-disciplinary approach, focus is put on how to develop an information security program; assess security risk in business processes; identify and implement a system of controls for security governance and regulatory compliance; plan and conduct IT audits; and develop business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

The MS in Community Psychology has been developed in response to interests expressed by community groups and organizations for assistance in addressing the needs of their most vulnerable members. The program prepares students to work at the master’s level in the field of Community Psychology in a variety of community, government and consulting work settings.

Students will learn how a community-based social justice perspective recognizes inequalities and promotes the exercise of greater power (i.e., access to resources and decision-making) for communities that have been marginalized, and creates ties to advocacy work with oppressed populations. African and Black Diaspora Studies (ABD) is an interdisciplinary program at DePaul that will provide you with an opportunity to explore the topics of power, history, identity, gender and race in relation to contemporary understandings of Africa and the movement of Black and African people throughout the world. As an African and Black Diaspora Studies major, you’ll explore the Black experience from a variety of perspectives, including but not limited to historical, artistic, sociological, anthropological, and philosophical approaches. And you’ll study the diverse cultures and societies that make up the global African Diaspora.

Concentrate your study regionally (e.g. Africa, Black America, Afro-Caribbean, Latin America, etc.) or thematically (e.g. literature and culture, politics, gender and sexuality, etc.), and work with dedicated faculty and take advantage of a flexible curriculum to tailor your studies to your interests. In addition to a variety of combined degrees, we offer African and Black Diaspora Studies majors a combined bachelor’s + master’s degree in Critical Ethnic Studies. As an ABD major, you’ll begin taking Critical Ethnic Studies courses during your undergraduate senior year, leaving only one remaining year for the MA in Critical Ethnic Studies.
