Students that pursue the 120-credit B.F.A. degree in Digital Art and Design have a variety of exciting career paths available to them. The program is intended to prepare students for successful careers in Graphic Design for Print, Web Design, Animation, and UX Interaction Design. The mission of the program is to impart fundamental knowledge of design and nurture the technical and creative skills necessary for graduates to secure opportunities as professional designers. Our plan of study provides students with comprehensive experience in industry-standard design software and introduces them to the different career paths they can pursue in various fields of design.

LIU Global offers a BA degree in Global Studies, a discipline that investigates the world’s interdependent political, economic, cultural, and ecological systems. Global Studies equips future leaders with tools to address challenges that transcend national and disciplinary boundaries, preparing them to develop solutions at the local, national, regional, and global levels. LIU Global organizes its curriculum around six issues that pose the greatest challenges to human wellbeing:

• Economic inequality, poverty, and access to livelihoods
• Social inequality: gender, race, ethnicity, and human development
• Climate change, clean energy, and environmental degradation
• Urbanization and sustainable human settlements
• War, conflict, and displaced peoples
• Justice, discrimination, and human rights

LIU Global teaches students how these challenges take different forms in different locations, thereby developing skills in adaptation and empathy as each locale articulates the particularity of its engagement with these issues. By addressing each issue through multiple lenses, students gain the skills in analysis and problem-solving that these complex challenges demand. Four lenses make up the core of LIU Global’s analytical method:

The Department of Health and Human Services is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Students benefit from classroom instruction led by faculty who are locally and nationally recognized for their scholarly contributions to social justice and improving the human condition. Hands-on internships and fieldwork opportunities in varied settings are also available, including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities, and social service agencies. 

The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Social Work will prepare you to enter the workforce, launching a career of helping people cope with life’s challenges and advocating for a just society, as well as continuing to graduate-level education.  We offer liberal arts-based, relationship-centered education where students form close connections with their professors and each other. The curriculum includes courses related to policy, practice, human development and social systems’ behavior, research as well as practicum-related seminars. Students learn the social work foundation of knowledge, skills and values through small class engagement with stimulating topics, role plays, case studies, videos, TED talks, close reading and reflective writing. They engage (in the Junior and Senior years) infield practice in diverse settings including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, charitable organizations, senior citizen facilities and social service agencies. Beyond the classroom and field placement, we offer a very active student club, which provides you with opportunities for numerous exciting community service activities.

Mental health counselors work with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat mental and emotional disorders and to promote mental health. They are trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques used to address issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, trauma, low self-esteem, and grief. They also help with job and career concerns, educational decisions, mental and emotional health issues, and relationship problems. In addition, they may be involved in community outreach, advocacy, and mediation activities. Some specialize in delivering mental health services for the elderly. Mental health counselors often work closely with other mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, and school counselors. Mental health counselors work in community health and social service organizations, day treatment programs, outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, or private practice.

The 60-credit M.S. in Mental Health Counseling provides students with core knowledge to be effective helpers in a variety of clinical settings. The program covers professional issues and ethics, counseling theories, human development, counseling skills, group work, assessment and career development. Building upon these core content areas, the mental health counseling program focuses specifically on the development of knowledge and skills necessary to work in a variety of clinical settings, such as: foundations of mental health counseling; research; evidence-based practice; program evaluation; psychopathology and psychopharmacology.

A major in biology will automatically fulfill the requirements for admission to almost all graduate programs as well as most medical, dental, and veterinary schools. This degree program covers the fundamentals of biology with opportunities to explore a wide range of subjects such as primate anatomy, human genetics, the plant kingdom, marine biology and microbiology.

The Bachelor of Science degree is ideal for those planning to become doctors, dentists or veterinarians and includes courses in mathematics and computer science. This program is also excellent preparation for such careers as biologist, ecologist, botanist, oceanographer, geneticist, chiropractor, medical technologist, pharmacologist, educator, researcher or nutritionist, to name a few.

Concentrations
The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at LIU Post offers three concentrations within the B.S. in Biology degree program: Pre-medical Sciences; Molecular Genetics-Cell; and Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. The concentrations provide the academic foundation for future admission into medical, dental or veterinary schools and other health and scientific fields.

As part of the curriculum, students conduct a year of research in a professional laboratory and receive hands-on knowledge in scientific research methods and techniques. This experience will provide the student with an advantage when applying for admission to graduate or professional school.

The Bachelor of Science in Music is for students who desire a strong music program, together with a well-rounded liberal arts education. Our 120-credit curriculum combines practical music instruction, including private lessons; classes in music theory and music history; elective credits that can be used toward your chosen music concentration; and traditional liberal arts courses in science, history, literature, economics, political science, philosophy and foreign languages.

The Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and minor program offer students unique access to the exciting, high-powered fashion industry.

Instructed by industry experts, the Fashion Merchandising curriculum integrates an experiential learning component through our student-run clothing boutique, The Student Body, where you will contribute to the retail store’s success by helping to choose inventory, manage operations, and advertise to the campus community. Secure internship positions at top locations such as Long Island’s luxurious Americana Manhasset shopping center and other top destinations.

To prepare the workforce of the future, the 30- credit M.S. in Artificial Intelligence (AI) aims to educate and train skilled leaders to create AI applications and AI systems that are designed to solve complex real-world challenges and problems across many industry domains. The purpose of the program is to achieve this latter goal while addressing the emerging needs of the market. Additionally, the new program, with its faculty and students, aims to accelerate multidisciplinary research and discovery in LIU emerging signature areas: health, pharmaceutics, pharmacological engineering, bioinformatics, and business among others. The program will create new opportunities for research and economic development.

Our B.S. in Finance is powerful and practical. It affords a versatility that enables you to find work across nearly any industry and business size—from startups to nonprofits to government agencies to global corporations.

You will learn how to raise capital for corporations, as well as how to invest capital in real projects and securities such as stocks and bonds.

As a student, you will explore the pillars of the financial industry, including economic policy, commercial and investment banking, capital markets, global debt, private equity and venture capital, investments and portfolio optimization, corporate governance standards, securities regulation, and ethics.
