The International Year is a 3-semester program, equivalent to a year's study of a bachelor's degree. This program has been specially designed to prepare international students for an undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Your International Year program will be a combination of English for Academic Purposes courses to develop your English language skills, and route specific courses. Each of these courses has been specially designed to help you develop the skills required to help you succeed in your university degree.

Spanish
The main focus of the program is to develop the student’s language proficiency and the literary, cultural, practical application, and translation competencies demanded by many professional fields. To accomplish these goals, the Spanish curriculum includes courses in general Spanish Language, Spanish for the Professions, Hispanic Linguistics, Spanish and Spanish-American Literature and Civilizations, and Translation.

What Will I Learn
Within this program, you will demonstrate advanced proficiency in Spanish through performance on examinations, in-class presentations, and research papers. You will also demonstrate the ability to understand, analyze, and interpret the cultural, linguistic and literary aspects of the Spanish-speaking countries through in-class presentations, examinations, and research papers. With this degree, you will be prepared to teach Spanish and/or continue their studies at the graduate level.

The Fisheries and Mariculture Program offers an MS degree with a choice of emphasis in either fisheries or marine aquaculture. Our students enjoy a low student-faculty ratio and opportunities to study the biology of ecologically and commercially important Gulf of Mexico species as well as economically important cultured marine species. Nearly all students receive financial support from assistantships, fellowships, or scholarships awarded by the university and by private and public agencies.

Our students acquire the cutting edge science and technological skills necessary for positions in public and private sectors of the fisheries and mariculture industries, as well as undertaking research allowing them to pursue further studies at the Ph.D level. Student research topics are as varied as FAMA faculty expertise and have included fish culture for stock enhancement, ocean acidification, algae biofuels, use of biofloc in the culture of Pacific white shrimp, disease, and relative value of estuarine habitats for finfish and crustaceans. Faculty and student researchers use an array of quantitative research tools including molecular techniques, statistical analysis and GIS, as well as traditional field sampling methods.

As part of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s School of Science and Engineering, you’ll benefit from small classes led by award-winning faculty and hands-on research. Our undergraduate biology degree has six tracks, fitting a wide variety of student interests and career goals.

If you wish to continue your studies and dive deeper into research, a master of science in biology may be a possible track for you.

The biology curriculum includes courses that will prepare you for a teacher certification in life science, acceptance to postgraduate studies, or pre-professional studies in preparation for admission to professional schools.

Throughout your academic career, you’ll gain the skills needed to enter a biology-related career and take field and laboratory courses that expand on the use of your practical skills.

The university offers the Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Environmental Science, an undergraduate Minor in Environmental Science, Secondary Teaching Certification in Earth Science, Life-Earth Science, or Physical Science, and cross-disciplinary educational opportunities for students earning degrees in related fields such as the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences, BAS degree (Environmental & Occupational Safety/Emergency Response Track). A Fast Track Program allows high-achieving students to earn both the BS and MS degrees in Environmental Science in five years through accelerated study. In addition to formal coursework and research opportunities, opportunities exist on campus and in the professional community for students to gain practical experience through internships and cooperative work-study agreements with local government, state and federal agencies, or private industry.

Physics
The Joint B.S. Physics degree is a Bachelor of Science degree with a Physics major, provided through the joint efforts of physics faculty both here at TAMUCC and at other schools in the Texas Physics Consortium (TPC).

What Will I Learn
Within this program, you’ll gain a broad understanding of physics. You’ll be able to understand scientific methods and be able use them to develop and conduct studies of physical systems. You will also be able to communicate physical information effectively at the undergraduate level, whether the communication is in oral or written form, with or without the use of technology.

General Business
This program of study provides a broad-based business background for those persons who are interested in a business career but do not wish to specialize in a specific functional area. The general business curriculum includes a study of various business disciplines that provides a broader competency base for those who may want to work in or to manage small businesses or selected not-for-profit organizations. This major provides a background for entry-level work in a broad range of businesses. An on campus format provides a mix of online, face-to-face, and blended courses. An online completion format provides 60 hours of online courses.

What Will I Learn
Within this program, you’ll gain a broad-based understanding of business. In addition, all general business majors will demonstrate knowledge of key international business theories and concepts, and will apply these international business theories and concepts correctly.

The degree requires a minimum of 75 semester hours in art, at least 36 of which must be in upper-division coursework.

Within this program, you’ll gain a broad understanding of visual art. You’ll also be preparing for specific careers along with theories and concepts, and will apply these theories and concepts in the senior exhibition.

This program has two main objectives: to provide an advanced understanding of the criminal justice system and its components and to provide either a concentration of knowledge and application of skills in a specialized subfield of study or a broad exploration of the discipline based on individual student needs through the selection of disciplinary electives.

The criminal justice program leads to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and supports the Bachelor of Applied Science Degree with courses applicable to criminal justice, community and mental health, and legal studies tracks.
