Engineering Technology (Contract Major)

The Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science gives you the flexibility to tailor your curriculum to satisfy your individual talents and goals. The program combines a set of required core courses with a wide variety of elective courses in the various areas of computer science.

Performing Arts Management
As a performing arts management major at Hartt, you will learn the skills to have a career in the performing arts of the commercial music business.  You are given the opportunity to concentrate in many different areas of management and business including the recording industry, touring, arts marketing, fundraising, for and non-profit management and entrepreneurial studies. Not only will you explore a variety of current problems inherent to the industry through classroom discussions, guest speakers, case studies and assignments, but also attend conferences and go on field trips to Connecticut arts institutions, as well as those in Boston and New York.

Core classes give you practical and hands-on experience including Arts Management Practicum and Internship, which enhance your leadership, teamwork and networking skills, while helping you grow personally and professionally. Recent students interned at The Bushnell Center for the Arts, The Newport Jazz Festival, Live Nation, City Parks Foundation, Tanglewood, Motema Records and many more.

With a Bachelor of Arts degree, your career-ready skills will be put to work at talent agencies, recording studios, performing arts centers, artist management companies, as well as professional dance and theatre companies.

Art History
The art history Bachelor of Arts program offers students a wide variety of courses that cover art from around the globe—Western, African, Mesoamerican, and Asian—and creative traditions in painting, sculpture, graphic arts, decorative arts, ritual objects, architecture, photography, design, performance, experimental media, and eco-art.

Special courses in museum and exhibition practices, in writing and research, and in the effects of cultural contact, migrations, and globalization on artistic traditions are offered to art history majors. Students are urged to study abroad and often take advantage of programs in Europe, Africa, Australia, and elsewhere around the globe.

Music Theory

The Music Theory program at The Hartt School is designed to prepare you for graduate studies, teaching, or a research career. Our students study tonal harmony, tonal analysis, modern techniques, tonal counterpoint, modal counterpoint, keyboard harmony, score reading, orchestration, and music theory pedagogy.

The diverse backgrounds of Hartt’s Music Theory faculty allow theory majors to approach music from multiple angles, gain appreciation and respect for varied perspectives, and ultimately shape an intellectual approach to music theory that best suits them.

Saxophone

The study of saxophone at The Hartt School offers a competitive, collegial environment for students to challenge one another, fosters artistic growth, and instill the necessary skills to achieve success in the musical world.

Mathematics Secondary Education

If you love math and want to teach, you can work in a classroom your very first semester. We have two magnet schools located on campus, so you can hone your teaching skills at both the elementary and secondary levels. These experiences will lead to:

Music Education: Research Emphasis
The Research emphasis prepares the student for further investigative research in music education and provides a foundation for future DMA or PhD studies. A thesis is required as part of the research emphasis.

Environmental Engineering
The Master of Science (MS) in environmental engineering program is a research-oriented program that focuses on the advancement of the fundamental body of knowledge in environmental engineering while also fostering the development of skills in design and analysis. This program lets you study an area of interest as part of a graduate thesis. Work towards solving a contemporary problem and become a technical expert. This program is also ideal for those who endeavor to eventually pursue their doctoral degree in an area within engineering.

Students in the sculpture sculpture explore a wide range of approaches to sculpture production. Our program recognizes the broad diversity of styles, techniques, and independent conceptual visions that define the field of contemporary sculpture.
