The International Pathway Program (IPP) is your route to a degree from the highly ranked University of Hartford. The IPP is open to students who have proven their academic ability but need to strengthen their English skills to achieve positive results in the collegiate environment. You will learn about the subjects you love, while being able to dedicate time to developing your English.

Communication
You learn social scientific, humanistic and critical approaches to the study of communication applied to media, organizations, relationships, and society. For aspiring and practicing communication professionals, you will find courses in integrated corporate communication, multimedia and media production, and more. Our course offerings blend information and methods, theory and application to give you both knowledge and skills.

Exercise Science
The Exercise Science program combines classroom, laboratory and internship experiences that will give you a comprehensive understanding of physical health, fitness and human performance. You will learn how to recognize and assess metabolic/physical, cardiovascular and pulmonary functions, and design and implement treatment plans for clients that improve their physical fitness and health.

You’ll also participate in internships designed to promote career readiness or preparation for graduate education in areas such as sports medicine, strength and conditioning, personal training and clinical research. As a UHart student, you’ll have opportunities to work with the University’s Division I athletic teams in these internships.

Music History
As an important feature of our curriculum is flexible elective courses that are suited to your interests and needs, our electives are often designed with our current students in mind. To that end, courses offered within the last two years have included opera history, string quartet literature, C.P.E. Bach, pre-tonal theory and analysis, medievalism in modern media, cognitive psychology, and critical editing; students may also take courses on jazz and African-American musical traditions in the Jackie McLean Jazz Studies Division.

In addition to our rigorous coursework, you will participate in a number of our performance organizations, including our Baroque ensemble, the Collegium Musicum. Hartt’s wide collection of early instruments, including recorders, Renaissance lutes and flutes, harpsichords, clavichord, baroque bows, shawms, and sackbuts, are available for use and provide you with an active and creative learning environment.
Within the music history major, you will choose between scholarship and research emphasis or performance practices emphasis. Our scholarship and research emphasis systematically investigates various elements of music in written papers, employing a rigorous scholarly approach. Our performance practice emphasis combines your interest in performing with the study of treatises, earlier performance techniques, ornamentation, and related issues.

Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies

If you’re interested in educational and/or career goals and objectives that are not met specifically by one of the school’s traditional majors, the Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies program may be an option for you.

This type of major is considered an individualized education plan and may involve educational experiences in more than one school or college of the University. Contracts that involve advanced or specialized courses from more than one college are considered cross-college contract programs and must have the explicit approval of both schools or colleges. You may have the opportunity to take courses within business and communications, for example. You will have an opportunity to follow the common first year and second year as other engineering programs do.

Radiologic Technology
Radiologic Technology is a dynamic, fast-paced profession that combines the use of sophisticated medical imaging technology with compassionate care of the ill and injured. As a radiologic technician, you’ll be a member of a team that helps diagnose and treat all types of pathologies and conditions.

Studying flute at Hartt exposes you to a comprehensive program designed to challenge and motivate you as a performer.

To enrich pedagogy skills, the Hartt flute studio uses a mentoring system that pairs an undergraduate student with a graduate flutist.  They meet together for a minimum of two hours a week to work in duets, resolve any problems revealed in Techniques Class, and for the chance to do research and get feedback from a partner. This gives the graduate students a chance to develop and refine their teaching techniques before leaving school, while the undergraduates benefit from the additional “one-on-one” help in between lessons and get to know fellow flute students more quickly.

Physics
Our Bachelor of Arts in Physics is the perfect choice if you want to study physics but are not necessarily intending to become a physicist. The program gives you a strong scientific background and analytical and problem-solving skills to pursue a variety of related careers. You customize your degree by choosing electives that help you explore your career options.

Computer Science
If you enjoy solving problems using computers, and you like to be creative and use your imagination, consider a degree in computer science. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program prepares you for a career in the computer profession, business, or education, while also allowing you to explore other areas of interest. It is recommended if you are planning to pursue graduate school.

Ceramics
You’ll work with both ceramic sculpture and pottery in the introductory courses and develop personal direction in your work as you advance through the curriculum. In all courses, regardless of level, you’ll develop your aesthetic and technical skills.

To further your growth, there are field trips, exhibitions, and workshops to attend, all designed to expose you to various modes of thought, working methods, and works of ceramic art by leading professionals in the field.

Computer Engineering
We are living in the era of the Internet. Almost any device or issue you can think of (computer networks, cyber security, controls for robotics, telephones, and more) involves computer hardware and software. Devices enhance how we work, play, and communicate. The design, development, and maintenance of devices involves critical teams of hardware and software specialists.

A wide variety of skills and expertise are needed in this area, from traditional hardware design and engineering, to computer programming. The most exciting new area involves bridging the gap between hardware and software to focus on the application of computer systems to real-world problems. Through this program, you will gain the necessary skills to design, build, repair, and maintain this type of equipment and tools used in everyday life.
